I was going to start this entry by saying that I managed to calm down a bit, but I've mnaged to humiliate myself twice befre nine thirty, or maybe even three times, actually.
Heroes was utterly fantastic and clever with an unexpected and satisfying developing plotline or plotline, rather. Peter's dream! Everyone meeting up/crossing paths some more! The Haitian speaks! The dubiousness of Mr B! Hubris all around! (Me realising that Jessica is Nikki's Hulk.) Little things like Matt getting called cute. The hotness of cleaned up Mr Isaac. Hiro's new mission being to get a sword. [hearts]
Someone on
wolverinerogue pointed out that there's a lot that's similar in Peter/Claire and Wolverine/Rogue. I didn't read the argument in full for fear of spoilers, but there's truth there - the powers are reversed, but the you saved my life and get my adoration on her part is there at least, and sweet too. And there I was thinking that this was a show where I wouldn't 'ship much. (Gonna contradict this in a sec.) And I'm glad Zach only got mindwiped, not killed.
Oh, Eden, (I didn't expect to say that) and your rubbish redemptive cunning plan. (Speaking of, Sylar's plan to nick indestructible Claire's powers makes more sense now that we know the extend of his). I really like how characters I was less invested in/disliked are growing on me as they gain complexity (f'rex Nathan's hatred of flying explained a little better last week. Who knows, I may respect Mohinder at some point!?)
However TV is trying to break my brain with the crossover actress. (Jayma Mays). It does not help that the character's name is Charlie in both shows. Nor the timing of the airing of both shows here in the UK. So I have the ambivalent reaction of her saying 'I heart New York', which is adorkable, and yet, she stands in the way of Betty/Henry and is thus a hussy and on top of that there's the multiverse issue of 'you broke Hiro's heart a little by dying!' Very confusing, frankly.
Otherwise, this ep hung together really well. The weak spot is Daniel going through the Sofia debacle all over again - and The Chin is a mere shadow of Ling, so though I love Lucy Liu, I'm not fussed. The pervy old friend has a bad annoying to funny ratio. But apart from my previously stated extratetual issues, the Betty/Henry/Charlie triangle is adorable - and Betty's moment of meaness (and contrition) is interesting as we watch Christina's bigger slip in letting herself be part of to Willie's machinations. Though who didn't cheer when she punched Quinn Mall- Jeey O'Connell's character? Sorry, this ep made me nostalgic for Sliders, which could have been awesome, but wasn't. Never mind, we have Heroes! And Ugly Betty is no slouch in the entertainment dept., it was Justin having to excuse himself that made the subway performance for me. He also gave me a little reflective moment about the nature of over-reaction. Ahem.
I also saw an ep of The Inspector Lynley Mysteries that I'd missed from the last series. I'd forgotten how awful the show is really (and this was evident even though it was on really late for me) and how Lynley's detecting technique seems to be a) being snooty b) repeating what everyone says to him. Havers is still marvellous though.
