Spooks 5.08

I would have posted this last night, but my computer wasn't co-operative. Not that I have much to say (for once) - I think it was because it was All About Adam and I don't care that much. I can't believe he's still being allowed to work - shouldn't he be back at the psychological treatment centre? Also, although it was sweet of them, Harry and Zaf should have held off from telling him that Wes had run away until the mission was over (Juliet would have). Anyway, despite the fact that he had a breakdown, I doubt he'll even get a half-day off.

And that reminds me of the very good Malcolm moment where he lied to get Adam back with it. Most of the characters had great moments (Ros's were undercut by moments of pure snideness though. Result - when I ought to be sympathetic to her, I'm all 'ha! Hake that!'). Adam's mostly came when he snapped to it and was scarily chopping down the soldiers. He also remembered that he was shot this ep - hmm, might be interesting if they tie that in more explicitly with the increased gun use hestia8's been going on about.

The plot itself was both vague and preposterous (knowing more about the Christian church, I will now remember to take everything the show says about Muslims with pinches of salt) and yet exciting - I forgot that the Israelis had been set in play and was shocked by the red thermal images. Are the Israelis the new Six? Anyway, that sequence and Scary Adam and the hilarity of Ros being so tough that she could take out Mossad operatives unarmed (She marched in there without a gun or night-goggles or anything. To face off Mossad operatives. 'Kay.)

More Zaf would be good, and if they can find a way of returning Ruth next series I would not mind that. (The Guardian's Guide pointed out that the audience missing Colin and Ruth is a sign of the show's quality. well, it's also that the characters were relatable - they balanced out the young and pretties who could do spying stuff. Though, I'm biassed, I sympathised with their geekiness. But we (I) may also be feeling their loss because those that are left aren't so engaging.) At present, the show looks like being the Adam and Ros show, with some nice shots of London. And okay, I can watch and enjoy the fight scenes and spy stuff, but I don't really care about them. Next week looks like being Tom (Tom-Danny-Zoe) all over again, which I know contravenes what I just said, but is true. And another thing, this taster before the ep is annoying and pointless. Someone explain the whole idea of spoilers to the Beeb.

Also watched Donnie Darko last night. I'd been challenged about the plot a while back and needed to refresh my memory. actually, good time of year to do it. Such a good film. Daveigh Chase as the youngest sister (you will remember that she's a member of the infamous Sparkle Motion) reminded me so much of Abigail Breslin's character in Little Miss Sunshine.
