[ Lookie here, check out this gorgeous view of the sea. The way the water is so clear and the sun shining brightly down on it. It seems like the perfect day for a swim and the perfect day to be outside, especially on the beach. Those by the Cianwood and Olivine beach should get out right now and sit right there, just like what the good old ( Read more... )

An easy one this time around, hm? I guess that's fair for all the newcomers. [A pause and a relatively harmless chuckle.] To answer your riddle - the father is forty; the daughter, ten.

You are correct. When the daughter is thirty in twenty years, her father will be sixty, being exactly two times older. Very well done, and yes, I always do start off with an easy puzzle when I start my video feed.

Will you like a more difficult one this time around?

If you so choose. I never mind a challenge, after all.

Alright, this one is a little more difficult. Thirty picarats for this one:

"A tree doubles in height each year until it reaches its maximum height over the course of ten years. How many years does it take for the tree to reach half its maximum height?"

[There's a small, thoughtful pause. Yes, even Izaya takes a minute to think, but he sounds confident in his response.]

Nine years.

May you be able to explain your reasoning for this answer?

[ But look at this smile. It totally tells Izaya that he's right, just gotta explain why. ]

It's a play on words, not math, in this case. [He laughs.] It's in plain sight in the question - it doubles in height each year, after all. So whatever the height of the tree was in year ten, halved, would be what it was in year nine.

[He chuckles.] It's clever. I'd imagine most people would immediately presume it was five years.

Correct! Like you have said, a play upon words and not math. By jumping to conclusions, you will arrive at an incorrect answer.

Very well done. You are doing a splendid job on my puzzles.

I'm glad to hear you feel that way, Layton-san! [Okay, he doesn't actually care, but this fun.]

Adding the picarats from the two puzzles you have just solved along with your past solved puzzles, you have a total of 75 picarats.

Is there anything you will like to exchange them for?

75, hm? How quickly they add up! But no, I think I'll hold off a bit longer.

Saving up for anything in particular?

No, not yet! But it's much more fun this way for me.
