Got home from the hospital yesterday. I had surgery to remove my thyroid on Monday and as long as I don't laugh, cough, yawn, hiccup or move funny I'm feeling pretty okay. All in all it was not as bad, painful or horrible as I had expected. They kept me in the intensive care unit for the first 24 hours after surgery and well doped up. There it was rather peaceful and quiet or maybe it was just he IV pain meds that made it feel peaceful and quiet ha ha ha. Than off the the normal ward I went and it was over with peaceful and quiet. I am a very light sleeper so I woke up about every 5 minutes because there was some kind of noise somewhere around. And whenever I did finally manage to sleep for a bit it was time to change my IV or draw some more blood. Everyone was very nice. The doctors all took time to explain things and answer questions and the nurses were all very friendly and took super good care of me. I had to laugh because the surgeon who did my surgery looked a little like the German comedian Bernhard Hoecker. No McDreamy, McSteamy or whatever but apparently he knows his job because everything went well. I still have my voice and everyone has commented on the incision being very small and healing very nicely. I'm looking forward to lots of reading and catching up with my favorite TV shows. I will be home from work for at least 3 weeks so I have plenty of time for that.
