Finals Week

May 12, 2008 20:05

This week is finals week, and things are going well. Drake has been moving out of the house so that I can move in to his room. I am excited to finally live off campus yet very sad because Drake is leaving for Europe indefinetly. I am going to miss him so much. I imagine the house will be different without him, but I know I will get along very well with Laurel and Holly.

Earth Day free bike tune-up was a huge success! At several times we had a line. We also got an article in the Flyer.

Critical Mass has been successful too. However, my vision of CM in Salisbury has not been fulfilled because instead of us blocking traffic dowtown and taking the streets, we just go on leisurely scenic rides. This is mostly because while I am skilled and confident on the road, most of the members of CM are wary of cars; they're the type of cyclists that pr efer to stay on the sidewalk. I am quite the opposite, I love riding in traffic, zooming in and out of cars, running red lights and taking up a half lane. I won't complain, however, as long as I can ride.  Below are the opening pictures from the past Critical Masses

Speaking of bikes, I rode a fixed gear the other night and immediatly fell in love! My plan this summer is to turn the steel frame road bike that's been sitting out of service in the sunroom into a fixie!
The weekend before Earth Day I went to Assateague with some friends (mostly from ESA and Outdoor Club). It was lovely. THEN WE BIKED BACK 36 MILES TO SALISBURY! It was absolutely INCREDIBLE! It took 6 hours, tho if it was just Drake and I on our roadies, we would have done it in 4 but we had some girls with us that we riding mountain bikes (very inefficient for long distance rides). The entire ride was scenic, nearly car-free, mild weather and totally flat. I rode in 3/4 gears the whole time. Afterward my behind ached a lttle and I was definetly smelly but it was really worth it. I would do it again every day.

The farm ahs been going well. We're yeilding some really healthy looking shallots, easter egg radishes, some strawberries and garlic. Later we'll be harvesting the potatoes and salad greens. Work is mostly weeding and harvesting on a small scale. Once June rolls around we'll have a lot more work to do. We'll probably start with transplanting some tomatoes and start on cucumbers and alfalfa.

Love life? Absoluetly terrible..incredibly unstatisfied and nonexistent. Every once in a while an inkling of hope will emerge, but only to be destroyed. For example, I fancied Nathan for a brief time. Then I realized we have so little in common. I've been thinking about what I want in a boyfriend lately and I realized I pretty much want to date a male form of myself. My ideal man must:
-not be religious or be an atheist
-love bikes
-love the environment and the outdoors
-be an activist, a leader
-appreciate the simple, close-to-earth lifestyle
-accept my vegetarianism or be one himself
-understand and appreciate my radical, anarchist and socialist political thought and be willing to participate in the many activist pursuits I undertake
-be good looking
added bonuses:
-well endowed
-have similar music taste
-have a road bike
-not mind me having hairy legs or pussy
