My Favorite Holiday!!
My favorite holiday is just around the corner. Ever since I was a child...wait ...I am still child, anyway I have always been mesmorized by Halloween. Horror movies, good horror movies with lots of character development and great moments of suspense and dread have had a special place in my heart. While I was growing up, I could never get enough of the Hammer Film Productions of horror stories. Very Victorian and Edwardian styles that have stayed with me ever since. They dared to break the laws of US ratings while not being overwhelmingly bloody and gorey, they gave you enough gore and blood at the right moments to make you say WOW! or YUCK!
My thoughts were always WOW and later that night I would pay the price along with my parents as my imagination got the better of me. "MOM!! there's a monster under my bed!" With great anguish and love mom would wake up and send dad to rescue me from my overly active childhood imagination. Poor dad. His famous words were always, "You are not watching anymore of that horror movie trash!" Of course, I would agree and the night passed without further terror.
Little did he realize that the next day I would be glued to the T.V. to watch Van Helsing fight Dracula once more or watch some mad doctor create another undead human terror. As I grew older my night terrors suddenly became my friends and later I learned my imagination works for me and not against me.
Today I still watch horror films. Some, I sit back and say WOW and others either never make of the rental shelf or suffer the fatal blow of being turned off while halfway through. Very few horror films today mesmorize me as much as those great horror films of the past did, yet I still watch them and so does my daughter. Life has a funny way of paying me back for all the sleepless nights that I gave my parents. I guess that's just a part of life.
