It's not a spoiler or anything.
Basically, it's become a very popular poster to make parodies with in the last few years. Nintendo probably used it in the advertising campaign because of the British connotations.

That's all there is to it, really.

I was under the impression that it was following the trend.

Game set in England, British motivational poster to parody.

It's a very popular poster.
Kind of the pinnacle of British character, in an ideal world.

I was surprised to see it in an American advert, though; I presumed no one outside of England had heard of it, haha

Thanks for the link. I was also wondering the full history of the Keep Calm and Carry On motto.
I saw it all the time during my UK travels.

There was a teahouse in Glasgow, Scotland that had it say

"Keep Calm
Drink Tea
and Carry On"

That was also Laytontastic. XD

Thing is, it's one of a set of posters that were never actually used during World War II. They were encouraging mottos printed up just in case Germany ever managed to capture Britain.

The other two in the series are also the other two parodied by Nintendo for Professor Layton adverts. One said "Your Courage, Your Cheerfulness, Your Resolution Will Bring Us Victory" and the other was "Freedom is in Peril."

All three parody versions of the poster can be seen on http://professorlaytonds.com, and you can read about the originals at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keep_Calm_And_Carry_On.
