Still okay but don't know if house is

Well- if you watched the news then you know that my home town was hit pretty hard by Rita- we still don't have much video- but my sons friend called him and told him that newly installed metal electricity poles were bent in half.

Sounds like my area did okay flood wise- mostly just the lower areas but we have no idea about wind damage- son's girlfriends father stayed and reported that their front door was blown into their home- she lives in a large newer home.

So we are still waiting to see.

We got to experience tropical storm stuff at my sister's home- but nothing too bad here just lots and lots of wind and rain- some branches and leaves down- but this is an area already somewhat crippled by Katrina

It was amazing that the size of this storm covered the entire state of louisiana most of the night- I don't remember ever seeing a storm quite so large. Last night while watching the coverage on Fox News (which I really think sucks by the way) I was extremely annoyed about them saying things like "it is good it isn't hitting Houston" and "there is no significant populating between New Orleans and Houston"- it is always great to know that you are insignificant. At one time they weren't even mentioning the state of Louisiana and it was obvious that the storm was going to make landfall in Louisiana. I really do fear for our coastal communities immediately south of my town. I really don't think much will be left there- but the people who live there are resiliant and they will rebuild if the land is still there. They live on ridges of slightly higher ground surrounded by marshlands.

Well- I wanted to update everyone- thanks to those who sent kind thoughts and words- I will update again when I find something out.

Julie
(who is exhausted after staying up all night but doesn't want to miss any news footage since they may show something about my town)
