I'll be very frank with y'all: I didn't watch this episode in the best of circumstances. I wasn't really in the right, like, "WOO IT'S DOCTOR WHO TIEM" mood. But even counting that...
I'm sorry, you guys, but I just didn't really like it. I spent most of the episode with the Fabray Wrinkled Brow.
Like so.
There were parts I loved. Especially the first scene in the Pond kitchen, when all I kept thinking was "THEY'RE MARRIED! THEY'RE MARRIED! YAY." Karen Gillan is ethereally gorgeous, I liked seeing more River, and the bit where she was describing how meeting the Doctor affected her as a young girl and it was close on Rory's face the whole time... that was brilliant and lovely.
I HAVE WAITED YEARS FOR MARK SHEPPARD TO BE ON DOCTOR WHO, THOUGH, AND HE WAS AMERICAN, AND WHYYYYYYY. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY. LE SIGH. The new alien menace (The Silence? Is that true? Idk.) is scary, but they felt more like misplaced Buffy villains than Doctor Who ones. I have no idea why my brain makes that a very strong distinction, but it does.
But other than that... I don't know. I just couldn't bring myself to care. The fact that it was so timey-wimey, so very early... I just couldn't get emotionally involved. I'm going to give the episode another chance later in the week, but... I was really disappointed.
