[Why yes. Title is taken from a
the_tenzo fic. I just reread it and it still cracks me up. ]
Hello, my lovelies.
I should be writing my Greece, Rome, Myth and the Movies final paper right now. It's tentatively titled Home and the Hero versus Homeric Hero: the Rejection of Greek Cultural Ideals in Superman Returns, because I'm awesome. It was also, er, due today, which makes me less awesome. It's going to be about how Superman is basically the opposite of Odysseus, using the concepts of kleos (glory, heroic reputation) which: Clark Kent doesn't take credit for Superman's feats, and nostos (homecoming), because Earth is his adopted home. Odysseus is famous and lauded for his ability to lie-- Superman is as honest as they come. In fact, Lex Luthor is much more like a Greek hero than anyone else-- his first monologue is about Prometheus, for fuck's sake.
Hard to concentrate, though, because all I can think about when I watch Superman Returns is how little Kate Bosworth embodies Lois Lane. MY Lois Lane is
Dana Delaney, followed by vague childhood memories of Teri Hatcher in distant second. Lois is meant to be... brass tacks, man. She does not take your shit. Lois Lane should be played by, like. Karen Gillan. (HELL YEAH GINGER SCOTTISH LOIS. NOT A PROBLEM AT ALL.) Or, hell, if I'm gonna bend the rules, may as well say what we all know* is true: Gina Torres would be the perfect Lois Lane. Hard where she has to be but secretly soft. Clever quirk of the brow here, sarcastic half-smile there.
Also on that note, Morgan Freeman would be an awesome Dumbledore.
ANYWAY, the harder I try and focus-- and I really need to focus, as I'm pretty much in blitz mode between now and the end of finals in a week and a half-- the more my mind drifts. I keep thinking, like, "YOU KNOW WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS? A picspam comparing the Cordy/Doyle kiss from Hero to the Rose/Nine kiss from Parting of the Ways. OR. OR. OOOH. Comparing the end of Doomsday to the end of I Will Remember You!" OH MY GOD, BRAIN, MASH-UPS OF ANGEL AND DOCTOR WHO CAN WAIT TWO WEEKS. SERIOUSLY, CALM DOWN.
In related news, the only thing I truly want for Hanukkah is a ticket to see Turn Off the Dark. I know that the reviews have been terrible, and yes, admittedly, everything I've seen to do with it has been incredibly cheesy. But COME ON, YOU GUYS. IT'S A SPIDER-MAN MUSICAL. HOW COULD YOU NOT WANT THAT IN YOUR LIFE?
So. F-list. What nerdy-ass ramblings have been percolating in YOUR thoughts lately?
*I just decided
