I spent this week artfully avoiding the drama that blew up as soon as I returned to work. Hint: When avoiding involvement in work and living situation drama, carry a book around and stick your nose in it when someone approaches you to moan. I am a good deal happier about living here without all that nonsense. It had the added benefit of making the teachers believe that I was amazing with the kids, because I was quiet and reserved the rest of the time. Little do they know, my little ADD brain couldn't stay still for much longer.
Mid-year evaluations are next Wednesday. Yes... MID-YEAR evaluations are five and a half weeks before all of this is over. Fantastical. Nice to know they're on top of things here. Eh... I don't imagine my eval will be bad, but I fret a little over it anyway. I'm not sure what I can do to make it better, but if they mention something about being more involved with my co-workers socially, I'm going to skip over that, because it really doesn't affect my job performance.
Omar, I just finished The Curious Incident, so remind me to bring it with me next time I visit you! Thank you for loaning it.
Hmm... yesterday, I drove up to Domerock. Well, actually, I drove up to the snow line and hiked two and a half miles through the snow to get to Domerock. It's a beautiful vista out there-- Needlerock is across the way, and reminiscent of a natural Stonehenge or Easter Island creations, and the view extends beyond that to look over the peaks of the Sierra Nevada range. Because there has been little traffic through here, as the snow is still covering the roads, the animals have wandered closer to the trails, and I was able to see a black bear climbing a tree. The wind was strong, and the pines very nearly shouted. It was a centering moment.
Today, I fixed a toasted bagel with cream cheese and fresh sliced strawberries and munched on muesli and yoghurt, then hiked around SCICON, determined to get back into my workout routine that fell by the wayside for my ten day visit to Atlanta. After that, I showered, fixed a lovely meal of tuna, cheese, tomato, and avocado on toast, then went to the rodeo for the horse and rope tricks. I left before I had to watch the bull riding and hog tying. It's just a little too abusive.
And while all this seems a little quiet and mundane, it made me happy.
