I'm an extraordinary machine

Update on yesterday and today:
Yesterday, three of us fully intended to get up and hike Skytrail, the longest and highest trail we will take the children on. The thought was if we could get through it once, we wouldn't be so afraid of it later. Yeah, well, we didn't make it. Not even close. We were terribly out of shape and in our defense, the heat has been in the 100's here until today. So, instead, we saw some cows, took some pictures, and vowed to whip ourselves back into shape. We hiked a lower trail at a steady pace, and as we came back we ran into a patch of blackberries. We picked quite a few and ate more. There is apparently a charming photograph of Bridget and myself with juice stains on our cheeks. We have yet to see it.

I made a ricotta honey cheesecake and folded in the berries, then made a sauce to pour over the rest. We will go out and pick more later on this week, as quite a few will be ready by then. The price I had to pay, however, for my blackberry picking are some rather nasty looking scratches on my legs. Quite a few, actually. But if anyone asks, I was totally wrestling a bobcat.

I met the rest of the interns and I do like most of them. There is only one that makes me twitchy. Otherwise, they are all kind and all clever... or quiet. Whichever. Most of us decided to go on a hike that evening to further our plan to get into shape, and then I stayed up a couple of hours extra to chat with Bridget. I am very thankful that she is my suitemate. Anyone else and there'd be no share-age of bathroom.

Today was the first day of training. It's a bit exhausting, and today was a light day. Tomorrow we go from 8am-9pm o.O Oof. However, nothing was corny or cheesy which made me feel much more relaxed about this. These people are realistic adults, not idealistic mentors. I found out that the times I am "village coordinator", I get an extra 200 bucks/wk tacked onto my paycheck. You do this role for three weeks about four times during the year. Sweet ass, yo.

Speaking of sweet asses, we did a hard hike this evening as a workout. I am going to have the sweetest ass within a month if we keep this up. We saw a young stag on our hike. Get your mind out of the gutter.

My heart still aches for Atlanta and my friends, but I suppose I'm also still grieving about the loss of people in my life and a place I nearly called home. I'm too jaded for all this heart.

I really must be off to bed, but I love you all. I miss you all. I am the code monkey to your desk job.
