This time I'm boosting Keine's defense and HP.
And a new mechanic: The Favorite Bonus system!
For accomplishing bonus goals on stages, you get bonus points* that you can assign to specific characters to give them extra bonus abilities. Getting to bonus level 1 costs 20 WP, and I have 25!
Reimu is now a favorite character! Her bonus is an ability called Youkai Buster, that she can use once per chapter, which makes her inflict 15% more damage against "youkai" species enemies for one battle.

Hong Meiling

Ability: Chinese martial arts, Qi control
Disposition: Easygoing
And she's with someone else, too!
Sakuya Izayoi
Species: Human?
Ability: ???
Disposition: Maid
Nothing too special! They're shopping.
Meiling keeps trying to be nice to old ladies, but Sakuya DOES NOT HAVE TIME FOR THIS SHIT!

ELSEWHERE IN THE SHOPPING DISTRICT
Reimu and Keine are ALSO shopping!

Marisa gives Reimu the down low on the tengu, and how they're looking for that second shrine maiden. Reimu remembers them mainly as being those youkai who publish that trashy gossip rag, the Bunbunmaru News.
Introductions! Keine introduces herself as the professor from the human village, and Reimu introduces Marisa as "apparently a magician".
Marisa's entourage is here, too!
Nitori flips out about being around humans again because she is weird. Alice points out that this may, in fact, be because they are in the human village.
Since Marisa seems to be the one with all the info right now, she also relates the Suspicious Maid lead!
Suspicious maid means suspicious master. Maybe we're on to something?
Reimu points out that shit, man, she got this intel from fairies.
Marisa wonders if they'll find them around drinking tea by coincidence, but Nitori says that there's no way something that convenient would hap
pen.
Oh hey.
Marisa's awesome strategy is to go right up to her out of nowhere and ask what she knows about the incident!
When pressed on the issue, she eventually acquiesces to responding to the inquiry.
Her answer is "no".
When the lead is about to die out, Meiling shows up, apologizing about how late she is!
Apparently, the five of us have started being called the Gensokyo Defense Force.
This will be funny to the SRWUG players in the audience.
Unfortunately for our villains, Meiling's reaction to hearing that someone is investigating the red mist incident is to GO INTO BATTLE MODE TO PROTECT SAKUYA.
Suspicions: Confirmed by Meiling being a moron.
Sakuya admits that, yes, she knows something about it, but whether the mist stops or doesn't stop is not her decision to make. Thusly, she and Meiling are going home now.
AFTER THEM
Chapter 3: The Silver Servant
When Sakuya sees that we're intent on pursuing, she sends Meiling ahead to take the groceries home! Sakuya will stall for time.
Sakuya summons backup!
Lots of it.
And they're all fielding danmaku! There's at LEAST triple-stacked fields in there. Getting through will be slow going.
While Keine, Alice and Nitori discuss the important of teamwork to this mission, Reimu and Marisa agree to a score attack duel! Whoever gets the most points wins.
I guess there's some 4th wall instability at work here.
She's testing us! Can we catch up to her before she gets away, with all these enemies in the way?
WE'RE ABOUT TO FIND OUT
If we engage Sakuya in a battle once, we win. If she reaches the edge of the map, we lose. Time to pull out all the stops and rush forward insanely!
OUT OF MY WAY, CHUMPASSES
Since that enemy was marked with a B on the map, I get a bomb for killing it!
This will become my key to victory.
By the way, Reimu asks, what about that new magic you were working on?
She can't use it yet, though. She needs that thing Rinnosuke was working on.
ENOUGH DICKING AROUND, OPEN A PATH FOR US NITORI
Accelerate is astoundingly useful here!
Of course, she'll draw more enemy fire this way, but she can take it.
Sakuya has the decency to only move three spaces each turn! It means we have a ghost of a chance of catching up to her.
Not everyone has to reach Sakuya! Bravo Team (Alice, Nitori and Keine) will open a path wihle Reimu and Marisa charge the boss.

Alice says that she has the same magical aura as an ordinary human... but Sakuya says that while she is human, she doesn't want to be lumped together with the rest of humanity.
