>> Chapter 2: Gunpowder and Steel
Part 3: Scarytown
So! I have a choice. I can go around the ghost town like a little scaredycat, or I can plunge into this land of horror and creeping ghouls.
FUCK YEAH
Ghosts!
As you can see, conventional weapons will not avail me here.
In addition to Swordfaith, one of Ionae's skills is of use here - Lucky Shot, a bullet that pierces through multiple targets and inflicts magic damage.
Unfortunately, Parmins are strongly resistant to magic, so I can't really multitask here! But that's what I have all those other attacks for.
These Poltergeists have the same strengths and weaknesses as the ghosts from before! The area is lousy with the reeking undead.
They do quite a bit of damage, though, which is what PyanPau can handle while he's busy not having any magic attacks.
And this is my reward for being reckless! A pair of rings and some cash.
Between his new Ring of Health and all the points I'm putting into Fortitude, Denever is getting sturdy as hell!
The combination of living and ghost enemies lends itself to a nicely varied set of strategies!
And we're through!
I could go back to that grass area for completionist's sake, but screw that.
Onwards!
Uh oh.
Jacin, you have to run back to Longreach! They may not have seen the explosion. We need help here now!
I'm not leaving you here alone, Anya! The plains creatures will be upon us any minute now. Where's the Lieutenant?
He's dead, Jacin. Frasier will be too if we don't get help here quickly. Go, you idiot!
S-So cold, so dark... I think I'm...
Hush now, everything's going to be fine. Campbell will be back with help from the fort in a minute, and then we'll get you to a doctor.
Thank God you're here! You have to help us! The animals will have heard the noise and smelt the blood. They'll be on top of us any moment now!
Alright. Ionae, PyanPau, we have to hold them back until reinforcements arrive from Longreach. Don't let anything past us.
Defense battle!
LET'S GET STARTED.
I won't be able to hold out on full defensive against three enemies forever, so the best defense is a good offense!
Once we have two down, though, it's best to play this defensively. While PyanPau plays medic, Denever uses some skills I haven't touched yet - Recover, which heals himself, and Fortify, which increases the armor of the entire party.
And instead of limping back up when a monster's revive count runs out, they get replaced with fresh new monsters at full health! The pressure is unrelenting.
Denever and Ionae switch back and forth between attack chains depending on whether or not we have anything large to fight...
Time's over half over, but this is getting intense...
Thanks to High Fire, I can snipe the weaker enemy out from behind the tougher one in front!
Some wonderful solace with nothing to fight. Everyone, support skills!
Time's almost over! Everyone, just a little longer!
Raaaaaah!!!
Enemy fended off!
Private Holmes reporting, sir. There's men still trapped under rubble in the bunker. I don't know how many are still alive.
Lieutenant Banson! Get your men over here with some shovels, roll up your sleeves and start digging! Somebody signal to Longreach that we need a priest.
We are indebted to you folks. You placed yourselves in great danger here. You may well have saved these soldiers' lives.
Any decent citizen in our place would have done the same thing, corporal. We're just glad we were here to help.
Of course. Captain Hardcastle will want to see you all in person. Follow Private Lansdale up to the Grand Hall. We'll attend to the rescue efforts down here.
Next time: Longreach!
