Josh was in the kitchen working on his fifth cup of coffee that morning and looking like he hadn't slept all weekend.

Which was true.

He kept glancing towards the front door, waiting for someone to come over.

Josh didn't deal well with people he loved getting hurt.

Just late enough for her to have showered but not so late that she'd actually had coffee herself, Aly tapped on the door of the house.

Josh wouldn't have described his next movements as racing towards the door and flinging it open, but that's exactly what he did.

"Don't scare me like that!" he said, voice coming out a lot harsher and louder than he'd meant it too.

Josh scrubbed his hands through his hair. "There were dinosaurs, Aly. Big, chompy dinosaurs! And I heard you were in the clinic from the radio and then nothing for another day from you and people I love have a terrible habit of dying too young and I spent most of yesterday trying to come up with a way to explain to your mother that you'd been eaten by something prehistoric and I can't seem to make this sentence end and please," he said, taking a much-needed breath, "tell me next time?"
