Don't bite your TONGUE, stoopit! Ow! Seriously, that really hurt. Gum-related incident, nothing to do with grading or the movie I saw this afternoon.
Busy weekend, grading and shopping for Thanksgiving, but I also squeezed in going to see *Twilight.* And I was very happy I did, because when I got back I was able to read the
m15m version by
cleolinda . Cleolinda has the most brilliant recaps of the books. They're funny even if you think you'll loathe them; they're funny even if you KNOW you'll loathe them. And the Movies in Fifteen Minutes version she just did is absolutely dead-on. I really do recommend it for anyone:
community.livejournal.com/m15m/19551.html#cutid2 I don't want to bore the snot out of everybody, so I'll put this under a cut.
Except that the movie is better than the book. As in, EXPONENTIALLY better than the book. Also, I really hadn't put it together that both the screenwriter and the director are women, and they did a kick-butt job, especially considering the material, so I guess that is nice. Also, Edward does not sparkle enough. Sephora is readily available, Ed, it's even right there online. You may wish to consider
this next time.
Oh, yes: the theater was really pretty quiet. Maybe that's because my local theater is an arthouse movie chain (and I am still so grateful they moved to my town, OMG, I was sick of driving half an hour in either direction any time there was something I wanted to see.) There were three groups of teenagers, and one group right behind me--they sounded like a family with at least one older lady. The group of girls in front of me, surprisingly, yelled and screamed for the actor playing Jacob, not Robert Pattinson. So no swoony Edward fangirls with tats. I was a bit disappointed. Also, the group behind me clearly didn't know the story OR the way movies usually work, because towards the end. . .
Ladies behind me: OMG HE KILLED HER. Oh, that's so SAD. Oh, how SAD.
Me: (turning around) Listen up, she does NOT get killed by the eels at this time, mmmkay? The girl who sold you your ticket was reading the second frammin' book. They greenlighted the second picture yesterday. SHEESH.
I admit that I didn't actually say that. But I was surprised, because usually it's the other way around. When I went to see Baz Luhrmann's version of *Romeo + Juliet* with Leonardo di Caprio, it was clearly a bad surprise that they died in the end.
Actual audience member: SNF. That was really sad, man.
Same deal with *O*, aka "Basketball Othello.* So it came as a surprise to me that anyone actually thought that this would have anything other than a Hollywood ending.
When i got home, I needed a bit of a break from all the Gothic sparkly, so I listened to Hugh Laurie reading *Three Men in a Boat.* Very Victorian, very British, very funny, and no sparkles anywhere in sight.
Marbles, Marko (aka "Mr. Bulgy") and I are looking forward to Thanksgiving. I bought my first-ever real turkey roaster and turkey platter. Believe it or not, I've been wrestling turkeys onto an undersized roasting pan and coaxing them onto regular plates for years now, and I am tired of it. So thank you, Macy's and Martha Stewart.
I also played the Marius house yesterday. You may remember that the Marians marry simselves. Denise passed on, which was sad, but she was a real matriarch at age 84. Penguingirl and Decimus aged up to elder. I was stupid, so Pen aged up gold, or maybe green. That was very stupid, and she went permaplat the next day, so I am keeping an eye on her life bar and I am going to cheat her some more time to make up for it. And I have a few pics of Orikes, Tertius, and Sextus, so let me share them with you. . .
I'm almost done with grading, so I hope to catch up with a few more legacies soon.
