Some people on Equestria Daily absolutely freak when the movie is even MENTIONED. Come on, people. It's the same franchise with the same characters and same writers and same voice artists. That's why it's getting reported on as news. Because it is. I have to accept

You're in luck, then. I think it's being shown on a SkyTV channel, so no more "being blocked in your area." Americans are so weird about cross-dressing or anything different. I honestly don't think this is a whole lot more radical than *Some Like It Hot.* Guy doesn't actually LIKE being Shezow, partly because of the pink skirt and partly because of the responsibility. He hates responsibility. He's basically a slacker. And the pain of it is that whenever there is danger, he spontaneously turns into Shezow and can't turn back until the crisis is over. If he's comfortably sitting around watching wrestling and eating chipadillas and drinking Fizz-Burp, that's just too bad. It does, however, come with a really badass car, even if it's pink.
I half expected someone to say that the horrible tornados in Oklahoma were God's way of objecting to Shezow. That's what people said about Hurricane Katrina and the Gay Pride parade in New Orleans.
I suspect that the cartoon won't have any kind of pushback in Britain. "Man puts on dress: hilarity ensues" is pretty mainstream.
My initial reaction to Equestria Girls was that it was such an awful idea that it had to be a fandom rumor sparked by a troll. You're kidding me, right? Of course, I had the same reaction to Alicorn Princess Sparkle and I was wrong about that, too. All the rage, including death threats to the creative staff, annoyed me so much that I decided to give it a chance. I still think the IDEA is stupid, but if they can turn Fluffy Princess Wedding into Invasion of the Body Snatchers, then maybe they really can spin straw into gold.
I can't imagine WHY Hasbro wants a Monster High style line. I guess the dolls are really popular and the franchise is exploding, but Hasbro never has had a fashion doll line that I know of, so I question their ability to come up with a product people want. The "prototypes" I saw actually are credible to me now--I saw a Barbie at the drug store that can't have been more than five inches high, with a molded plastic bodice and removable skirt.
I watched a few episodes of Monster High, and it was just wall to wall boys and makeup and popularity and dating. I got so bored, so quickly. (Also, dang, their shoes! Those platform heel sandals look painful!) I think the very thing that makes them so boring as characters is what makes them so popular with doll collectors. They're shallow, but the design is cool if you like that kind of thing, and there are lots and lots of them.
Basically, yeah, I think in the end I'll prefer my ponies to be ponies, but I live in Southern California and I can see EG's premiere for not too much money, and I'm curious.

*Sigh.* People really can be jerks.
