When Stella woke up, it took a few minutes for her brain to process exactly how she was feeling. She was in bed, with Caleb curled up behind her, one arm and one leg draped over her. This was perfectly normal- except for the fact that, for the last few weeks, it hadn't been normal. When her mind finally woke up enough to sort out her emotions, Stella smiled.
She wasn't terrified.
After spending all of her waking hours (and the few non-waking hours she'd managed, as well) either in a state of horrified terror or constant worry, feeling safe, rested, and most of all contented was rather a lot to process. She lay there quietly for a long while, going over all the things that she and Caleb had said
last night. They had talked through many things, but Stella knew that today was going to be far from easy. There had still been a lot of awkwardness, even when they were just trying to do something as simple as get ready for bed.
She didn't want to wake Caleb, but after glancing at the clock and realizing that they'd been sleeping for close to 12 hours, Stella desperately had to use the loo. She slipped out of bed as quietly as possible, trying not to disturb him.
