Prologue - Sorry

Sorry.

Sorry is a powerful word; it can mean everything and nothing.

It can change the world and completely alter the course of someone’s life; it can be said in so many more ways than just vocally, by a kind word after an argument or a friendly smile when scowls have been exchanged.

For some people sorry comes from their lips as easily as rain falling from the sky, and to others scaling a mountain would be less daunting than uttering that five letter word.

These are the people who learn that an apology too late loses all its power and becomes just another meaningless word echoing with the tears of hindsight.

This is the lesson Hitsugaya Toushiro felt drive into his soul like a knife, with an edge keener than any zanpakuto’s, as he stood in the corner of a small airless room and screamed sorry.

The word resonated far too late, all its meaning lost as Hitsugaya felt his fragile ice-bound heart shatter.
