"If you wish to leave a message for Edmund Blackadder, this is the place to do it; unless you're a debt collector or a member of the British royal family, in which case, sod off."

"What? Oh, right, that's me. If you want to leave a sausage for Sodoff Baldrick--"

"A message, Baldrick, and no one does. Shut up."

"...And also, did you see the stains you left in the pantry just the other day? We really need to get that cleaned up. No, you can't keep relying on the hotel staff to come in and wipe the place when you let some lymph fluid boil over!"

...Obviously a call from the hotel manager, Edmund assumed. Sighing, he studied the paper guide to telephone usage that had been slipped under his door, and called back.

"I don't recall you insulting me; I'm not even sure who you are. Calling someone an elephant isn't kind, or in my case, accurate." Scully's voice was very dry. "While I realize there might be confusion about that being literally true here, maybe you should stick to not making personal remarks about people you've barely met."

While he was quick enough to see the value of the telephone when Miss Perrault had showed it to him, she'd rather left out the annoyance factor of receiving calls from random people he didn't know. (Or, for that matter, most people he did know.)

Still, the telephone guide had mentioned that in polite society, people returned telephone calls, so...

"Who are you calling hairy jerk!? You are the hairy jerk, sister! And why are you calling me? I'm so not following your silly pranks, so you know."

But Zee was so, so wrong.

That one required some puzzling through, before Edmund realized that someone actually had wanted to leave a message for Baldrick, after all.

He was going to have to disinfect the phone after letting Baldrick call back, but the amusement factor was well worth the effort.

"It's for you, Baldrick. Apparently you have a lady admirer, presumably noseless, or possibly your sister does."

"You know? You have some nerve. I didn't just get leprosy after you slept with me. You know that? You could have called, you asshole."

Since he hadn't slept with anyone one this island and anyone he had slept with would have no idea what a telephone was, let alone how to leave him a message, Edmund was fairly sure someone had pressed the wrong buttons, but it was still worth keeping his reputation unsmirched.

"How could I forget about you?" Cindy asked, almost purring into the phone. "Though I'm pretty sure we have plans to 'catch up' for this weekend, don't we?"

...Edmund knew he should have asked what 'buddy' meant instead of just assuming. Far be it (far far faaaaaar be it) from him to complain about such a tiny little misunderstanding, though, and when in the 21st Century, so forth, et cetera, ahem.
