Future Drabble...

[ooc;idk what this is. kinda just wrote it...it's short and future-y..and yeah. whatever.]

Adler held the tiny body in his hands carefully, reverently. You would think that having done this once before would give him ease but instead, he looks more nervous.

His life has been a series of mistakes and wrong decisions. He's had some fame, some fortune but for the most part, all of the good things that have happened have found their way to him by luck. He's a screw up, and it's been a long time since he's learned to accept that fact.

He tilts his head down, watching the steady rise and fall of a teeny tiny chest, wrapped up in layers of clothes and blankets. This child is so blissfully unaware of the world around it and the heartaches that lay in wait for it right outside the door.

In this nursery, it is safe. Guarded by the love of it's father's and the protection they have fought hard to provide. It will not know of the hurt and the pain and how many times both of it's father's had been so close to breaking point, only to be pulled back from the edge again and again.

It's been a long road. A hard journey and yet every stumble had held a specific purpose and Adler can't find it in himself to resent a single one of them. If not for the confusion of his youth, he wouldn't have been so captivated by the clarity Leif provided. If not for the breakdowns and self doubts growing up, he wouldn't be strong and put together now.

This child is his one and only glory. The one hit wonder. The new, exciting flavored cupcake. The best dance move ever created and greatest story ever told. This child is the only perfect thing he ever created and if it grows up knowing only one thing, than it will be that.

No matter what commercials Adler wrote for, or what symphonies he played or even cakes he baked, this child outmatches them all. This perfect, dark haired, peacefully sleeping little boy is his masterpiece. His work of art.

And as Erik opens his golden-hazel eyes for the first time, his nose wrinkling and mouth pulling open in a yawn, Adler realizes it was all worth it. Everything. For it all led up to this one spectacular moment and Adler has never been more proud.

what; drabble
