Ric had been busier than usual lately--which meant not at the Grill on their stools when Damon stopped by to get a drink or over at the boarding house every night. Not that Damon could claim that he was being ignored--Ric was around at less, but he was still around. Damon, however, was very good at feeling neglected--or, well, curious about why he ( Read more... )

Ric wasn't even all that surprised to walk into his apartment and find Damon on his couch, drinking his alcohol. He startled just a little, but only a little, then rolled his eyes and dropped his things on the other end of the sofa. "Make yourself at home."

Damon just arched an eyebrow and raised the bourbon to his lips.

"You've been busy lately."

Possibly it sounded a little accusatory, but he wasn't pouting. Much.

"I have been," he agreed, mildly. "I'll call more often. Send notes. Send up smoke signals?" He was being almost gentle about it. He absolutely was not going to abandon Damon. "We can set up days to meet and drink if you want."

"Where have you been?" If he was acting like a jealous child, blame his brother, at least partly. Ric was all he had, really, while Elena wishy-washed her way back to Stefan after all he'd done.

He was mildly placated by the idea of making plans, but, at the same time, it was still...unsettling.

"Are you sure you have room in your calendar?"

No, he was not handling this as graciously as he had in his head.

Before he'd smelled the wolf.

[ooc: OMG. >.< I apologize for the IMMEDIATE WHINING.]

"Dating," Ric said, and went to pour himself a drink. He had a feeling he was going to need it. "Trying to figure out how not to flip my shit and kill everyone I care about. The usual. What have you been up to?"

[[OOC: no problem at all!]

"You're not going to kill everyone." Damon had been around enough, at least, to want to believe that. "I mean, no one's died in...how long?" He was vaguely distracted for the moment, but he came back to the other part quickly enough. "Dating who? The psycho doctor lady, again?"

Who, fine, hadn't turned out to be that psycho, but still.

"I'd tell you not to hold your breath, but...." Damon could hold his breath a damn long time. Not and talk, granted, but that wasn't the same. Might be a case for Ric to telling him to hold it, though.

He brought his glass back and sat down in the chair, facing Damon at a bit of an angle. "She's not psycho, and no, not Meredith. One of Tyler's friends."

Damon just ignored it. He'd get back around to talking about Ric killing people if Ric needed to, but he had his own thing now.

"Tyler has friends who are girls? Is he even back in town?" He scowled. "Please tell me you're not dating one of Klaus's hybrids..."

He meant that, sincerely. As sincerely as he questioned Tyler's ability to have friends of the opposite sex.

"Tyler has friends who are of the opposite sex, he is not back in town yet so far as I know, and she is not a hybrid. Does that cover everything, Mom?"

"I don't know is it?" Damon asked, processing that, then gave him a look. "She's not one of your students is she?"

What? Tyler was eighteen and one of Ric's students.

Damon was in love with one of Ric's students.

It was a logical question, if somewhat unlike Ric, sure. But, well, so was randomly killing human beings.

Ric glared - hard - over the rim of his glass. "No, she is not one of my students. Or anyone else's student. She's old enough to vote, smoke, and drink."

Damon shrugged. "And friends with Tyler," he reiterated, as if that showed a serious lack in taste on her part. Except where she was dating Ric, which showed good taste.

He was conflicted.

"Anything else you want to tell me about her?"

"I like Tyler." Sort of. Vaguely. In a weird way that was born entirely of having really hated Tyler's father. But he wasn't evading, so: "Yeah. She's a werewolf. She's here occasionally. Try not to start something."

At least he'd told him. Damon had been ready to say something about knowing if he hadn't.

"Why are you dating a wolf?"

"The same reason my best friend is a vampire."

Which was to say 'what the hell, Damon, why does it matter what she is?'.

"Which means your girlfriend is like...genetically primed to kill me," Damon pointed out. And already a killer, but he but that back. Who wasn't? It worried him, though.
