Afterwards

Walked over to the Golden Nugget and sat down at one of the quieter places, where we could actually hear each other talk over the fucking loud ding noises of the slots. I was resting one hand on my knee, while the other kept playing nervously with my cig as I tried to take in my company ( Read more... )

The dark-haired girl that had weilded the stake so effectivley before took control of the group, once it was clear that the demons were all defintley deceased, and led us to a corner booth of one of the casinos. I tried not to cringe as we sat down. Sometimes the noise of this place overwhelmed me.

I took the drink she ordered for me, and sipped it politely from the outside seat I had claimed. Curiosity was keeping me here right now. That, and free time, if I wanted to define my situation more acurately. But that didn't mean I would ever shake the need to station myself in the best place to move, and move quickly, should the need arise.

"Glad you're ok, boss. Sorry if I disappointed you."

I quirked an eyebrow at her words before pulling back and showing anything else. But really, I was learning quite a bit already.

"You didn't, Faith. Not a bit."

That was the way of things, then. I hardly had time to process that before her name settled. Faith. There was something there I think I am supposed to know.

"So, now that we're away from that mess..."

I shrugged my shoulders, taking another sip from my drink.

"Taking down demons usually is. The mess doesn't offend me," I found myself talking. My voice was dark and scratched, and I realized just how little I had used it over the past few weeks. "It all washes off. Or most of it anyway."

"As it at least seems that we're all in a similar profession, I think introductions are in order."

My mind began to run though the different names I had used before, trying to decide just which one to call up. But then I remembered...it didn't matter anymore. At least that part wasn't taking as long anymore.

"Samantha," I offered, looking around the table to look each person seated there in the eyes. Trying to see if they would meet me right back. "Sam..."

I though about how to finish. It was still my last name right? And it wasn't one of the things I was running from. That was his job.

"Sam Finn."
