Walked over to the Golden Nugget and sat down at one of the quieter places, where we could actually hear each other talk over the fucking loud ding noises of the slots. I was resting one hand on my knee, while the other kept playing nervously with my cig as I tried to take in my company

Faith had taken the liberty of ordering the drinks for the table, and I raised an eyebrow as she specified a scotch of which I approved. I was quite surprised she'd taken notice. When the drinks came, Faith touched my arm and there was an unexpected electric moment I think we may have both experienced. She took her hand away, and I put my free one over where it had been.
"Glad you're ok, boss," she said, lightly, and I returned the expression, though my thoughts stayed back a few moments.
"I am, and thank you," I answered, very honestly.
Her expression darkened. "Sorry if I disappointed you."
I frowned back, trying to fathom just how she possibly could have disappointed me with what had happened in the alley. Replaying the event as best as I could, there was nothing I could find fault with. She'd been as exceptional a fighter as I knew she was. I, on the other hand, had nearly gotten myself killed.
There was also the matter that I did recall her being very concerned about my welfare, and that I couldn't imagine was a bad thing.
Faith had settled in to my left, so I placed a hand on her knee, hoping she'd understand.
"You didn't, Faith," I said, as sincerely as I could express. "Not a bit."
"So, now that we're away from that mess..."
Blinking, I patted Faith's knee again as she seemed to look to me for assurance about something.
"Yes," I agreed, and turned to our new guest, sitting beside Bethany.
"As it at least seems that we're all in a similar profession, I think introductions are in order."

I took the drink she ordered for me, and sipped it politely from the outside seat I had claimed. Curiosity was keeping me here right now. That, and free time, if I wanted to define my situation more acurately. But that didn't mean I would ever shake the need to station myself in the best place to move, and move quickly, should the need arise.
"Glad you're ok, boss. Sorry if I disappointed you."
I quirked an eyebrow at her words before pulling back and showing anything else. But really, I was learning quite a bit already.
"You didn't, Faith. Not a bit."
That was the way of things, then. I hardly had time to process that before her name settled. Faith. There was something there I think I am supposed to know.
"So, now that we're away from that mess..."
I shrugged my shoulders, taking another sip from my drink.
"Taking down demons usually is. The mess doesn't offend me," I found myself talking. My voice was dark and scratched, and I realized just how little I had used it over the past few weeks. "It all washes off. Or most of it anyway."
"As it at least seems that we're all in a similar profession, I think introductions are in order."
My mind began to run though the different names I had used before, trying to decide just which one to call up. But then I remembered...it didn't matter anymore. At least that part wasn't taking as long anymore.
"Samantha," I offered, looking around the table to look each person seated there in the eyes. Trying to see if they would meet me right back. "Sam..."
I though about how to finish. It was still my last name right? And it wasn't one of the things I was running from. That was his job.
"Sam Finn."
