In the aftermath of the Scourge invasion, New Orleans had slowly been rebuilding. Jack Calloway had taken up Crowley's position as head of the Supernatural Police Force, and had been doing a good job. But the most important position had yet to be filled. In the absence of one half of the ruling body of the city, there had been tension. But tonight, finally it seemed someone was going to make sure that Humans and Demons got along.
Philip Leveau was closemouthed about who it was, but he was confident that it would put everything in order again. If, slightly different.
Connor, as one of the notables of the city stood with Lane at the ceremony that would introduce the Baron's successor.
"Why did I need to bring
Lugh?" Connor asked. The rabbit was cradled in the crook of his arm, looking around with interest.
"You and he are both unique." Philip explained. "You are both part of what makes New Orleans special."
Connor shrugged. He couldn't argue there. As he'd
said to Meg a few weeks ago, things in his life were starting to look up.
New apartment,
new friends, even having
Gwen borderline stalk him served to lift his spirits. So his status as one of a kind didn't bother him as much as it might once have.
He did kind of wish that
Faith was here. She had been there when he'd first met the Baron, it seemed strange to not have her here now.
His attention turned suddenly back to the ceremony when the fire in the center of the gathering leaped spectacularly, and a woman stepped out.
"Behold," Philip said, his voice hushed. "The Baron's successor, Mama Legba."
Connor's brows shot up. "Mama? I thought Legba was a man."
From
Mileux"Most men do." she said mischievously. Reaching out a graceful hand, she scratched Lugh between the ears. "I am Loa. I am whatever I wish to be. You need not fear your destiny Connor Angel, Dhampir. It has already been fulfilled, and defeated. You are free."
