I've encountered men willing to jump in front of women who are about to be executed. They throw these women to the side and take my shot without hesitating, the women screaming in the background. I've encountered children who will grab animals off the floor and hold them to their chest, sobbing uncontrollably before sweepers remove them from the area. Men, women, and children both who would waste time by flipping through a piece of corragated cardboard with pages attached.
People who will just sit for hours with their heads tilted back listening to pieces of music. Grown men who stare transfixed for hours at a piece of canvas where someone has smeared color in the attempt to create a design or an image. Minatures of humans or non-existent beings such as Robots or Dragons. Some move or shift if pressure is applied in certain places. Animals...filled with cotton and stapled with great glassy sightless eyes.
The Animals are The worst.
no, I take that back. The worst is the Box
It sits in the corner of a room, or placed in the center like an altar. Its a primitive form of our visi-screens, very primitive. It does not automatically activate when one enters the room.
But it sits there.
And throughout our Evidentary rooms we have photographs and images, pictures and drawings, of people sitting in front of this box and staring at it for hours on end. Food is sometimes brought before it and then consumed as if the box sends out a hypnotic signal to those present.
Evidentary Officers have explained to younger clerics (As they did when I was a child) that it is not a dangerous device and that the box would sometimes show pictures or words on command, just as a visi-screen does.
They fail to mention how people were enslaved by it. Sense offenders also fall victim to this, only they have somehow managed to package the box's hypnotic signal into a disc. Or a Cassette.
What sort of a cruel society would create such a device? How could a government have desired that much control? Thinking about those people, trapped, enslaved by their boxes, I shudder.
Thank Father for our freedom, the freedom that liberians enjoy.
When I first heard that Robbie knew about the Box I had a nightmare. I came home from work and my children sat in front of it. Engrossed in a talking mouse and a talking cat and a musical number.
Each holding animals with glassy sightless eyes.
I pity such a race, to have a dependence on such a horrible box.
