Over lunch at Ikea, a friend, Co, was asking us for advice: "If you have a choice between 2 portfolios at work - 1 is continuing what you've always been doing, (read: mundane) with a great supportive boss to boot; OR doing something else which will give you better market value, but the trade-off is having a notoriously demanding and obnoxious tyrant for a boss."
She highlighted how obnoxious that said boss can be with some hilarious anecdotes:
1) When her current boss had a one-to-one session with The Tyrant (henceforth known as TT), the latter noted she did not have much relevant experience to justify holding on to one portfolio under her charge and told her point-blank. In fact, he also provided what he thought was a clever allusion to illustrate his point better:
"It's like a virgin trying to sell sex. I hope you dont mind me saying that."
LMAO! Needless to say, Co's boss did mind and was not amused at all.
2) Rumours has it that TT is so impatient that when you travel abroad with him, he expects you to handcarry all luggages because he does not have the patience to wait at conveyor belts. It's like - touchdown, clear customs, everything chop-chop, and go go go!!
She went on about some other rumours overheard from where he was last posted ie A* and then i realised, could she be talking about the infamous "personality" that we so often read about in the papers. I think my face showed cos Co looked at me and said "Yes, it's that guy, PY"
Oh man, initially i told her it would be good to take up that new portfolio despite the boss. But knowing that TT is PY, i told her to reconsider LOL!
And for obvious reasons, because i dont want to have my pants sued off, only initials are used :P
Anyways, i guess PY cant be that much of a terror compared to supermart cashier employees in Chile who have to wear diapers because their bosses dont even allow toilet breaks:
According to Reuters, the president of the worker’s union at Santa Isabel said workers are not allowed to leave their work stations of up to eight hours or longer. The spokesperson said, “They are not given permission to go to the bathroom and they can’t last for so many hours; that’s why some have started using diapers or sanitary pads.”
