No offense to your friend, but, uhm.. maybe that is who you are? I mean, if that's the kind of person you are, that's the kind of person you are. Or, you know, maybe you took it the wrong way. My friends give me shit on a near daily basis for all of the kinds of things that I'm into. However, are they wanting me to change who I am? Hell no. They know that that is who I am, and while they kid me about it, it is all in good fun.
Don't give up something you love because someone else makes a comment. Either just ask her to deal with who you are, or just tone yourself down when you are around her. My ex-girlfriend is a good example. She wasn't a huge fan of video games or anime, and the J-pop I was into at that point (mainly SPEED) she couldn't stand. She didn't hate me for being into it, though, and on my part, I was just careful to tone myself down when it came to that kind of stuff when I was around her. I would wait to go to the game shop when I was alone, I did my GameFan stuff or game playing when she was at school and we weren't hanging out, etc.
Seriously Pro, don't give up something you enjoy because of anyone else. If you REALLY want to give those things up for yourself, that is one thing. If you DO give up J-pop, make sure it is for the RIGHT reasons.

On the other hand, you have mellowed out quite a bit about the whole thing in recent years. :)
