So I figure I'm due for a personal post by now. Things have been pretty crazy lately, what with adjusting to my new situation (college). It's good to finally get some independence. I can just go and make ramen. Whenever I want. It's awesome.

Still getting adjusted to the work and all. Lots of writing. Some math. Some science. A foreign language. It's put a damper on my h/c bingo plans, that's for sure. And I want to do NaNoWriMo but I'm not sure how I'm going to swing it.

Anyway, ratherastory did this meme thing and I thought it looked fun so I'm doing it too. The idea is you guys comment on this post with "THE VERY NERVE!" or some variant thereof. I ask you five questions to get to know you better, and you update your journal with the answers and continue the meme if you want.

Anyway...

1- What is your favourite activity outside the home when you have spare time?

To be honest most of my activities are the indoor sort, but I really do like nature as well. That's one of the things I miss most about being home. There's one tree in my front yard that's really nice to climb. I read or listen to music or knit or just watch cars go by. I can see them and they can't see me. That probably doesn't count as "outside the home."

But I do like going to see movies. I see all the goopy romantic comedies with my mom and the scary stuff with my dad. And in my experience when you want to make a point to spend time with someone, you have to have something in mind to do. Otherwise it's just like "We should hang out sometime" "Yeah we should" and we never do. So a movie is a good thing to suggest. And I have a bunch of really good friends who graduated high school a year before me and when we're home at the same time we see whatever Pixar movie is out. So that's fun.

2- What is your favourite musical instrument and why? Do you play it?

This is a hard one. I suppose my ultimate love is the piano, which I have played for a very long time and amassed very little skill. I love how versatile the piano is. And you can play more than one note at once, which is more than can be said for most other instruments.

Runners-up include all string instruments. I am a mediocre violin player so that gets props. And I also think the cello is very underrated and sounds absolutely beautiful.

3- Are you married/shacked up/dating someone? For how long? How did you meet?

I am not married or dating anyone. I have a roommate, if that counts as shacked up. We live in a dorm with lots of other people. I've only dated one person in my life. We dated for about a year and a half. We were best friends for a while and then we started sending each other mixed signals. Then at my sister's Bat Mitzvah I conned her into making the first move. I dumped her in my car after our traditional monthly diner pancake lunch date. This makes me sound like a terrible person, but I'm not. Probably.

4- Who is the bunny that lives in the basement? Is it yours? What's the story there?

Ah, yes-- Misky <33333 She is a fluffy white rabbit with two brown spots on her back and brown circles around her eyes. On my eleventh birthday my mom tied a bandanna around my head and herded me and my friend into the car and drove us to an undisclosed location. We got out of the car and I was unblindfolded; we were at the pet store in town. I fell in love with Misky at first sight. My mom was less than pleased at what I had chosen-- she had pictured some kind of small, easy to care for hamster or something. I would not be budged. Despite the pet store guy's assertion that Misky was ornery and mean, we bought her. Her full name is Marshmallow, after the bunny in the picture book who made friends with a cat. And I go downstairs and reread Harry Potter and Roald Dahl and pet her. I think she hates me, which is sad. My siblings are taking care of her now that I'm away.

5- If you could meet any author, dead or alive, who would it be, and what would you want to know? Or would you just want to hang out with them for a few hours?

OOOOOH. You...that...ergh. So many. So many. Well, number one is of course J. R. R. Tolkien. I don't have anything particularly lined up to say to him. If I ever met him in real life, I'd probably be reduced to staring, making odd grunting sounds and shaking my copy of The Two Towers at him. Even the thought of coming face to face with him in real life scares the crap out of me. So he'd sign my book and I'd stare at him for a few minutes and leave, and the moment I got home I would come up with fifteen intelligent things to say and six burning questions.

Also, Chuck Pahlaniuk seems like he needs a hug. So I'd give him one.

And I'd really like to be BFFs with John Green, but he's nearly twice my age. His vlog makes him seem like such a nice guy. He's too old to be the big brother I never had, but definitely within range of being the cool cousin or uncle. I feel like he probably gives pretty good hugs. And the wormhole/sorcery/whatever making this happen would make it so that it would be a well-deserved, non-awkward, justified hug.

I just ticked Scott Westerfield off this list, actually. He was at NYComicon and I got his autograph. I bragged about being one of the five people on earth who actually read the Midnighters trilogy. Dess is his favorite character too.

Thank you for your attention, everyone! Don't forget to consider participating in the meme. If you don't I love you anyway.
