Get your kicks in 06

So here’s my year in review. Since elementary school 2006 has been engraved in my mind as a big year, and it did not disappoint.

January: I rang in the New Year at Cat’s house and with John. I turned in the last of my college applications and with that was a second semester senior. After four years in the Breck theater, quit my senior musical.
February: Am extremely bored having no after school activities: spend a lot of time thinking about college.
March: Started off the month delivering my senior speech about being passionate. Soon after turning 18, went to Italy for Spring Break.
April: Heard from colleges and began the process of choosing where I’d be spending my next four years, scramble to get Ars Nova to the publisher, and keep grades high enough that I don’t have to take any finals
May: Distribute my pride and joy, Ars Nova. Began working at Peace House, meeting people who ultimately push me to begin thinking about pursuing a career in non-profit work. Decide to go to Occidental college in L.A. but days later return to the college office to change my decision. Without consulting my parents or anyone who thinks their input is valid, work with college counselor and decide ultimately to go to Whitman College in Walla Walla.
June: Graduation, senior party, began working. Way too much to recap. Leave Breck for the final time
July: Continue to work at Katie’s, meanwhile spending weekends on the boat, at Lone, or at Primaries shows. 4th of July marked a year since my friendship with Izzy began and subsequently my persona began to change. Started the summer romance with Dan beneath the fireworks. I’m pretty sure it ended in July, as well.
August: Said goodbye to MN for three months. Packed up and headed out to Whitman. Met three leaders and seven other freshman who comprised my Scramble. Spent a week on Ross Lake kayaking and was convinced that my love affair with Whitman was far from over. Came back to school, met my roommate, moved in, said goodbye to the parents, and Camp Whitman began.
September: With the start of actual classes there was also the start of a new phenomenon that will forever be linked with those first few weeks at Whitman: football. F-yeAh began practices, I quit ballet, I love college.
October: Parents weekend, including a dads vs. girls football game. Our last football game of the season, and cheering the boys on in the championship.
November: First visit home at Thanksgiving. Continue to revel in the awkwardness that is Whitman, continue to be enthralled with my classes.
December: Finish first semester at college. It’s strange to think a year went by so fast. It seems like this year was supposed to be so important to me and my life, and I guess it is, but at the same time, this is just a beginning. I would have been fine no matter what. I guess I’m just trying to say that 2006 was amazing and in just the past four months I’ve changed monumentally. I’m beyond excited for ’07.
