“It isn’t this or that!” she yelled, “Things aren’t always black and white. Real life has grey areas, dammit!”

This concept of grey areas he just couldn’t understand. Life, and its ensuing decisions, came easy to him. For him, there weren’t really any grey areas. Something was either this or that. Once a decision was made, it was final. There was no need to go back and rethink or evaluate its accuracy. No decision was ever made in error because every decision was made using logic and facts.

While that made his life simpler in some ways, it also complicated it. He found it incredibly difficult to relate to people, especially women, who seemed to think of the world in if-then statements and saw it as a shifting canvas.

As she slammed the door and stomped down the steps, he didn’t feel apologetic. She knew this, of course, and it was why she couldn’t ever go back.
