Happy is so much harder to articulate as well as to make interesting. By nature stories have to have an arc, which involves conflict and, therefore, at least a little sadness. I suppose I could have a happy ending once in a while, but that seems cliche nowadays, like that's what the reader expects, so, naturally, I try to deviate from that.
that's definitely true. it's kinda like how we like to watch dramas more than tv shows where everyone is happy...it's just far more entertaining.
and i agree, that is so cliche. like in almost every movie, you know how it's going to end because they rarely leave the protagonist hanging in the end.
Roberto and I were talking about this once and I mentioned admiring writers (books, TV, whatever) that aren't afraid to incapacitate a main character (though, obviously it helps if there's a lot of them) in some way. He looked at me and goes, "All your characters die, right?" heh.

and i agree, that is so cliche. like in almost every movie, you know how it's going to end because they rarely leave the protagonist hanging in the end.
