I put on a Haydn string quartet today and enjoyed it. A lot. I must be getting old. In other nerd news, one of the professors in our circle of friends is still not back in the country. Someone is still covering the classes she was supposed to teach this semester. I doubt too much politics makes it into these courses, given the subject matter. But that did not stop U.S. government authorities from detaining her at the airport when she was returning at the end of the summer to start the semester, denying her entry and making her purchase her own ticket back "home" (she's been living in the states for many years). There, she was interviewed at the U.S. embassy and denied entry once more, despite her university's having hired lawyers for the case.
Why? Well, it could have a little something to do with her involvement in the Palestinian cause (not the mention the not-White appearance, although she's not at all Middle Eastern), and perhaps with her mother's active aid to Palestinian communities as well. Is this professor a threat to national security? To _anyone's_ physical security?
Well, her mother has been grey-haired for a number of years. She _could_ teach her daughter how to bite people with dentures.
I'm sure they both have dentures. Which are dangerous.
Some of us may be applying for asylum in Canada in the not-too-distant future - and I don't mean Czech Roma flying from Prague.
