...Hence my LJ coming across as empty. Oh well.
E-mail from "mayhem" G, who just got back from China (regarding Bubla's upcoming Orthodox baptism [how religious I am or am not will not be discussed here at this time, let's just say baptism is a Romany custom unless you're Muslim, or not into baptism, but that's not the only reason we're doing it (pissing Ignac off crosses my mind as one motivation ;-) JK)].
ran into [Ignac] this morning, he cycling boldly to work, me waddling to
donutshop for caffeinefix before disshating begins. i will see you thurs for
babydunking!
My reply:
It's like dunking your doughnut into the coffee, except you'd really have to dunk the ENTIRE doughnut, which would include the fingers that hold it. Though I suppose the priest could just drop the kid into the baptismal font with a big splash. But I doubt my son will fit into the pee-wee infant baptism bucket anyway.
In other Bubla news, after 2.5+ months of "living with a hearing impairment diagnosis", he was finally supposed to be fitted for hearing aids today. Except the retest showed that his hearing is now normal. (It was only one of the 2-3 kinds of tests he had in the summer, but it's the better one so I trust it.) Apparently, the hearing aid would have been a lot more useful, like, a year ago. Or more. (Orphanage neglected to screen him OR inform us or give us the piece of paper from the birth hospital that calls for all preemies to be screened by age 1. So I didn't find out until I went to the hospital to beg for records, at which time the Early Intervention people in Prague were also pretty sure there's something wrong with his hearing.) What this retest business most likely means is that Bubla really did have crappy hearing for a good while, which has likely caused some of his speech issues, but that it was closely tied to his OEMM (outrageously extreme mucous manifestations), which have recently become much better. Hence the dramatic improvement. Let's just say I sincerely hope this is what it means, because the other option is that he has intermittent hearing loss and may continue to have his language development affected because he's not getting hearing aids. And because I'll probably stop talking to him all loud and slow like an idiot. I'm certainly glad that Bubla doesn't have to go through more Ear/Nose/Throat prodding now, and I hope the same will soon be true of his alk phos issue.
Now that I think about it, I should have made the look-what-he-can-do-now entries public so it doesn't just look like I'm complaining about his health all the time :-) Well, here's one: he JUMPED (as in, up into the air at least an inch) the other day for the first time. And he's suddenly become the most expert toddler climber (on EVERYTHING) at the playground and beyond. I'll probably find him on the roof sometime next week. Oh, and I hope the priest walks out of the church unscathed on Thursday, or at least not requiring immediate medical attention.)
