[RL: Edgey's Apartment, July 26, in the A.M. | Larry; Phoenix; Edgeworth]

Jul 26, 2008 23:47

Bidding the last guests goodbye, Larry closed the door and yawned, stretching his arms way over his head and sighing once he heard that ever satisfying pop. He took in the empty foyer-drooping streamers and all-and grinned. The party was a success, if he did say so himself, and after a mental pat on the back, he bounded to the kitchen… where he ( Read more... )

Phoenix panicked as a wine glass nearly slipped out of his hands. He turned a fierce glare on Larry. “What does it look like I’m doing?”

Larry rolled his eyes. “You know he’s got people for that.”

“He shouldn’t have to pay for us messing up his apartment.” He set the wine glass upside-down on a paper towel next to him (he hoped he was doing it right; he remembered reading somewhere that you should only use hot water on fine china, but he wasn’t sure if liquor glasses counted as either ‘fine’ or ‘china’).

“Whatever, man, it’s your free time.” Finding a clear spot on the counter, Larry hopped up and seated himself, kicking his feet back and forth against the cupboards. “So, what’d you think? Pretty awesome party, huh?”

Phoenix ran an arm across his damp forehead, frowning as he only succeeded in making it wetter; it took him a moment to remember he’d just been up to his elbows in dishwater.

He turned to Larry, amazed at how well the other man could hold his liquor. He was pretty sure he’d seen no less than seven different beers separately occupying his friend’s hand tonight, while Phoenix himself was still feeling sleepy and mildly buzzed after only a single beer and two glasses of wine. He really was a lightweight, wasn’t he?

“I’ve gotta hand it to you, Larry,” he said amidst a yawn. “It didn’t turn out nearly as bad as I thought it would.”

Larry pouted. “What do you mean, ‘nearly as?’ It didn’t turn out bad at all!”

Phoenix smirked at the response, lazily mulling it over. There were a couple altercations he’d heard of, a few people acting obnoxious, but for the most part, it seemed like everyone had had a good time. Shrugging, he went back to washing the dishes. “Yeah, I guess you’re right.” He smiled. “You did good.”

Larry snorted. “Good?’ Man, I did great!” he said, to which Nick merely rolled his eyes.

A moment of silence followed, but Larry was never very good with silence, so he filled it with tapping a beat on his thighs. When he quickly bored of that, he turned his attention back to Nick, opened his mouth, closed it, opened it again, and then hesitated before he finally asked, “Do you think he liked it?”

Phoenix glanced at him, eyebrow raised. Was Larry Butz actually second-guessing himself? “Sorry. I only really saw him a couple times tonight,” he confessed. “You’re gonna have to ask him yourself.”

At that, Larry looked around the kitchen as if Edgey would magically appear. “Where is he, anyway?”

“Er…” A bit wobbly, Phoenix leaned back and looked over his shoulder. “I think I saw him go into the bathroom a little while ago. You can probably catch him on his way out.”

Larry appeared to consider this before quickly shaking his head. “Nah, man.” He hopped down from the counter. “I should probably hit it before he gets out. You know, just in case he didn’t like it.”

“Or,” Phoenix began, giving Larry a pointed look, “you could stick around and show what a great friend you are by helping clean up. I mean, seriously, look at this place!” He gestured at the collection of glasses, the half-full beer bottles, and the open bags of chips scattered about, dripping water on the linoleum floor as he pointed. “We can’t just leave it like this.”

Once again, Larry rolled his eyes. “I told you, Nick, he’s got people for that. Besides…” He grinned. “I already filled my ‘great friend’ quota for the month.”

It was Phoenix’s turn to roll his eyes now. He fixed Larry with an incredulous look. “Oh really?”

Larry beamed, holding his arms out. “What do you call tonight?”
