Kiss Me Goodnight

I've found that walking all the way down to Dickinson, or even just to Herter (with the bus), is much shorter when I'm listening to music, in the case that I am on my own. So I filled up my MP3 player with the broken nob with Feist - Let it Die and then some song I thought might blend well. I put in this one song "Lest we forget" by The Waifs that I had listened to one or twice, and then ignored, deciding I didn't like it, and well, with the broken nob I just had to listen through it anyway... It's really touched me ever since I figured out what the lyrics were, so here:

Lest we forget,
your dates as a younger man.
like how when you were 9,
you fell in love because she was
the 1st girl you'd seen throw a cricket ball.
You knew that you'd be together for the
rest of your lives.
Now you sit alone in the sun,
in the backyard, feeding the birds
reading the newspaper.
Thinking about the love that you shouldn't have lost.

Love that you lost,
love that you shouldn't have,
Love that you lost,
love that you shouldn't have,
Love that you lost,
love that you shouldn't have lost.

When I was a child, I didn't see her much.
She passed away before i was 5.
I was so young that it barely affected my life.
Then one day when i asked,
you told me she was magnificent.
all that i had was your word and a photograph.
But that look in your eyes told me all that
I needed to know.

Love that you lost,
love that you shouldn't have,
Love that you lost,
love that you shouldn't have,
Love that you lost,
love that you shouldn't have lost.
Love that you lost,
love that you shouldn't have,
Love that you lost,
love that you shouldn't have,
Love that we lost,
love that you shouldn't have lost.

And this song in turn makes me think of the book I have yet to finish... but it's hard to read something that often makes you want to cry.
For anyone who may have lost a mother, Kiss Me Goodnight is something you want to look at...
