Good to meet you Ms. Hunnigan.

I would like to know if you have the legal rights to publish Mr. Salazar's private journals before a trial has begun? Moreover, I would like to have access to a current criminal code for whatever system Mr. Salazar is being tried under.

According to my lawyer, this is pretty much legal, and none of the usual ethical issues with unsealing evidence apply here. She's not at risk of influencing the jury or forcing a change in venue.

If you want me to actually dig up the law in question, you're going to need to wait a few years while I pass the bar. This stuff is kind of slow going.

((This was getting me curious, so I called a friend of mine who's in law school.))

Ms. Redfield, I was not addressing you.

That lapse in manners notwithstanding, you did bring up a few valid points and I would like to consider them:

Firstly, you mentioned that you have a lawyer. Have your prisoners been afforded the same luxury? Has your world's version of Amnesty International been informed of their capture?

Secondly, I do not need you to trouble yourself by searching your own laws. If given a current copy of your criminal code, I am more than capable of doing that myself.

Finally, I am a little concerned by you disregard for 'ethical issues' in this matter.

Ah. I'm genuinely sorry; I didn't know this was a private conversation. [she's not being sarcastic.]

I wouldn't know if they'd been assigned a lawyer yet, but they were just arrested this morning. According to the late paper, the Spanish and U.S. governments are still arguing over who gets to try Salazar. If they aren't assigned a lawyer soon, though, I'd be pretty surprised.

Amnesty International is for human rights violations. Why would they have to be notified? Leon was specifically waiting until Salazar could be humanely detained before arresting him, and Salazar gets annoyed when you call him "human" anyway. I've had a couple of different arguments with him where he deliberately called himself a different species.

Here's a copy of the United States criminal code.

Finally, I said none of the "usual" ethical issues. I can see why she did it. I wouldn't've done it, but I can see why she did. This is all enough of an argument without somebody getting drunk and running off to break Salazar out of prison.

Fair enough, please accept my apologies if I was short with you. [He is also being sincere.]

Amnesty International does more than concern themselves with violations; they strive to ensure that no such horrors occur. However, if the story has been broken to the media, then I'm sure that AI has begun their work.

Of course, since he is not human I wonder if he has any legal standing. No 'human rights', no need for a trial, nothing but a quick end? And yet, I can't criticize too sharply about that -- anyone other than a Greek is still a barbarian, I suppose.

But where does that leave Ms. Hollister? No papers, not even from that world. It's a sticky-wicket.

Thank you for the reading material, Ms. Redfield.

I guess they're treating him like a human, even if he doesn't think he is one. Like I said, they're arguing over where to try him. There's a guy on TV now saying he'll probably be sent to the Hague or something if Spain and the U.S. don't make up their minds soon.

I don't know about Hips, though. I guess she'll be on the books by the time this is over, one way or another.

You're welcome.

I'm helping to finance his defence. And now, Hippolyta's as well.

He's been trying to change. I hope he hasn't decided it's not worth it anymore...
