Remus grinned at seeing her, pushing down his nervousness. It didn't help that she had all this energy and all he had was himself. A drab old man who knew that the rest of his years would be spent cursed as well as penniless. Nymphadora...Tonks, on the other hand, looked absolutely stunning. He had hoped that she didn't notice that he did take a bit of a long pause before answering her back as he took her in. "Thank you," he says with a smile. "You look very nice as well. And, I know -- us having the same night off together is sort of odd."

The other thing that was odd was the fact that he was nervous. Nervous in the way that he wasn't quite sure how to act right now. He wanted to just touch her, to feel her, but at the same time, he knew that wasn't the right course of action. He would go through dinner and then figure out what to do. Dinner is managable, dinner would be easy and relaxed.

"I feel a bit out of place with you saying that I didn't need to bring anything though," he said and as soon as the words were out of his mouth, he wished he could take them back. Yet, he wasn't sure what else to really talk about. Their jobs? Why make the night depressing by trying that topic. He could have tried the weather first, really.

Tonks laughed and moved even closer, to shake his head and drag lead him in the direction of the table.

"It's good that we got time off together at the same time. And that Sirius decided to release you for an evening. Both of us, that is."

She grinned up at him. Drab old man? That was definitely not what she was seeing. Instead, he was somebody she was starting to find difficult imagining her life without... and the last thing she wanted would be to say or do something that'd make him retreat, close into himself. Feel uncomfortable around her. Want to stay away...

"Well, you brought yourself!" The grin turned impish, then flickered for a moment as her toe caught on the carpet, and she added. "Besides, I thought you'd feel uncomfortable filching wine from Sirius's cellar - you'll end up spending more time with both him and Kreacher, which would be bad if you got caught" underestimating a Marauder? Oh never mind... "so I kind of did it for you."

Remus grinned and went with her in the direction of the table. The smells coming from the table was making his stomach growl a small bit. "It is," he agreed and chuckles. "I think he might actually want some peace and quiet. Or just the quiet to come up with a plan to break out of headquarters."

He was relaxing, trusting himself to come outside of himself a bit more rather than closing up. Relaxing around a ball of energy that glowed more than anything he had seen before or would probably see again. He could get used to this, a different sort of everything that seemed to fit seamlessly. She always brought a smile to his lips, and she didn't even have to speak. It only got better when she did.

"This is true, I did," he says and caught her so she didn't completely fall. "Probably would have just asked Sirius so he could tease even more. Either that or I just wouldn't get caught."

"Thank you." For catching her. And for coming. And for... well. Then her grin turned impish. "But what's the fun in asking for his wine - which he kinda offers us anyway when we're there? I mean, I know we have danger and all that all the time, but sometimes a bit of a harmless adventure piques up the taste." Not that her taste for anything was anything mild, of course. When she liked something, she loved it, when she liked somebody, she...

Ah, there they were. "Ta da!" Okay, there were no socks on the table. Actually, there was a practical tablecloth, a setting of sound - if a bit battered at places - dining china, and a good sound dinner, including a salad, a roast mutton piece, and various sides. And butterbeer - the bottles were warmed, thank you.

And of course, two bottles of some unidentified Black relative's stores of good, elf-made wine.

Nothing pretentious or elegantly crafted. But obviously, laid out with eagerness and enthusiasm and want to please. Well, want for both of them to enjoy.

She'd made sure all three chairs that were too broken to safely sit on were out of sight.

She hoped.

"You're most welcome, Tonks," Remus said. He had wanted to call her 'Dora, but he wasn't so sure how she would react to that. Or if he really did want to call her that, but he did. He would leave it for later, really. It didn't matter right now.

"It looks amazing," he said. "And very cozy and just...thank you again, Tonks, for inviting me to dinner. I really don't get out much, so its nice." He was rambling. This was something new for the man who was usually very collected and knew what to say. It was that he wasn't used to kindness shown outside of his best friends, having to keep a wall up against the rest of the world. He knew without a shadow of a doubt now that he could let his guard down a small bit.

"Shall we sit then?" He asked as he moves and holds out her chair for her to sit down first.

Tonks liked the rambling. Most definitely. She even smiled encouragingly. Well, she smiled interestedly, but one could take that as encouraging. "It's not like I go out much anymore either. And... the company's left me wanting more of it, so far."

She tried to handle having somebody holding out her chair for her... It was kind of awkward on her part, but at least the table setting survived (as in, she didn't lose balance and pull the tablecloth off under the entire thing), so we're good, right? She grinned up at him. "Thank you." Straightening up her spine a little, trying to think how her mum behaved at dinners, she pointed at the other seat. "Please." A beat, then, "and dig right in!"
