Rain rain go away come again another day.........

So the remnants of IKE are in my area today and we're flooding. It's been raining steadily since pretty much about yesterday morning. So in addition to the rain we've been getting in the last 4 days now we got IKE adding to the problems. The backyard is a lake. The street is a river. Water from sidewalk to sidewalk in most places for our street. Truck!Dean is sitting in the water. There's probably 3-4 inches of water in the road at least. Neighborhoods and sections of surrounding towns and cities have been evacuated throughout the day. Road are closed everywhere. I was supposed to return DVDs to the Munster library today but I can't get there. Dead Man's Curve on the road Mom takes to work, at the elementary school, caved in because of the ditch under that section flooded.

The entire school system for town is closed tomorrow. Since Mom works for a school, the principal called her to tell her that school is closed tomorrow and they initiated the phone tree. The automated system called to tell us this too.

So just about a 45 minutes ago a fire truck came down our street/river and announced a volunatary evacuation. I went outside to see what was going on while the fire truck was here and I talked to two of our neighbors. Mrs. Sullivan was out in Crown Point when I called her but her husband is home, and I talked to Cathy next door and everyone seems to be doing okay. Same with all of our family that lives out in Highland. The apartment building we own in East Chicago seems to be okay, but we can't get there to check so we called one of the tenants and had her go downstairs and check.

We're staying here as long as we can. No basement, so no flooding there. But with the flooding in the backyard and the standing water in our driveway Mom and Dad are downstairs (three steps down from the rest of the house) in the laundry room and garage moving things up off the floor in case we do get water down there. UPDATE: The backyard seems to be receding but the front yard and street seem to be getting worse a little faster than it was before. But it's not raining so much anymore, so maybe we'll be okay.

So yeah I'm stuck in my house with no way to escape unless it stops raining. My sister, acathla02dru is mad at me and agumentative, so we're not talking right now. My Mom is irratated so I'm just hiding online as best I can and trying not to say anything to anybody but Dad unless it's a flooding update.

So we're going out to walk around to see the Middle School a block away and see how bad it's flooded there. When Mom went past this morning the entire parking lot and field was a lake. There was a teenager standing in the parking lot and it was thigh-high on him.

See you guys later.
