So first things first I guess- This is unbetaed! If someone wants to beta this *cool beans* if ya'll just wanna let me know if there are any fuck-ups that's cool too. Also just a quick mention here this is only my second Firefly fic ever, the first was my
apocalyptothon one.
Title: Bear Patches
Rating: PG13 (For Jayne's language)
Fandom: Firefly
Summary: A look at Jayne's thoughts during specific key scenes at the end of the first half of the Firefly pilot "Serenity".
Wordcount: Approximately 402
Disclaimer: I own nothing but my shiny DVDs. Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy and all the other appropriate network types, own everything.
Author's Note: Sooo I've decided that this summer I'm gonna do something a little different... Rather than join a ficathon like last year I'm going to do this. A little something I'm calling Firefly Summer Drabble Series! And okay so they won't necessarily be 100 words even, but my understanding is that drabbles can also refer to any short fic.
Author's Note 2: Also I took the title from the camera shot in while Kaylee's in surgery where you see her Bear Patch on her cover-ups.
Author's Note 3: This was written for all of the wonderful people on my Flist.
gitanne101 For recently reading my Firefly fic from last year's
apocalyptothon "In The Black Prologue" and
"In The Black" (1874 words including the prologue above) Also for
spikess For starting her own set of a drabble per episode for Supernatural at her journal and sending me down the same spiral for Firefly. And for
abe16kidbosco,
strangevisitor7 and many other folks on my Flist for much hand holding, and declarations that my fic/icons don't suck as bad as I generally think they do.
You guys are awesome. I wrote this for my May writing bit. I haven't posted this anywhere else yet but I'll probably do that at some point.
Author's Note 4: Edit: 6/1/08-- So
gitanne101 gave me a beta on this late last night, so now I've got some mistakes fixed up on it.
So onto Firefly Summer drabble Series #101 "Serenity" (well the first half of "Serenity" this time anyway...)
Bear Patches
Kaylee!!!!!!!!!
Jayne schools his expression into its standard scowl and levels his gun on Dobson.
He shot her! Little Kaylee didn’t do nothin’ to him and he shot her! I’ma gonna kill him.
“Outta the way” he tells the Shepard.
Book refuses to budge saying that Jayne’s not killing Dobson.
“Not right away...” he quips.
The Shepard claims Dobson is no threat.
Gorramit he is! Didn’t the Shepard see what the Fed did to little Kaylee?
Kaylee whimpers in pain and Jayne’s resolve increases ten-fold.
She shouldn’t be in pain!
Jayne hears Mal and Inara trying to soothe her. Mal saying it ain’t more than a mosquito bite and he feels mildly better in the situation when Kaylee says it was a big mosquito.
He tells the Shepard to move again and is fairly pissed when the preacher states plainly that it’s not going to happen.
Jayne raises his gun to the Shepard and tells him that he ain’t joking with him.
“Jayne.”
Ruttin’ hell. Zoe’s got that tone in her voice that means I won’t get to do what my fingers have been itching to do since seeing Kaylee on the floor in pain.
Jayne glances at Zoe, she's got her gun point at him, the Shepard and Dobson.
Zoe orders him to just tie him up and, after a moment, he does.
She didn’t say anything as to how gorram tight it should be.
Jayne ties up Dobson as tightly as he can with the duct tape he’s got.
***
After securing the Fed and listening to Book say that he’ll watch him, Damn Shepard’s determined to not let me have any fun! Jayne finds himself on the catwalk outside the Infirmary and crouches down watching Mal and the big city doc operate on Kaylee.
Gorramit, she looks so small just laying there. It shouldn’t be her laying there.
***
Mal said something to the doc and leaves the Infirmary, the doctor close on his heels yellin’ no. Jayne grabbed the man from behind and follows the captain with the doc in tow to the Cargo Bay. When Mal asks where the Fed is; Jayne tells him about the Shepard bein’ with him. Mal kicks open the doc’s big crate, while the doc doubles his squirming to escape Jayne, yelling somethin’ about needing to check her vitals.
What the gorram hell is he blatherin’ about? Wonder what’s in the box?
