wow marshall would be so proud of me!!! i'm not sure if this place is online or not but everyone needs to search for this place...big glassy mountain at carl sandburg home in flat rock, north carolina. maybe all of those details will get you to what i want you to see. every monday we meet at 7 pm to hike up big glassy mountain trail. it is a 1 1/2 mile hike STRAIGHT UP!!! it burns but it is such a good workout. well we have gone 3 times this year so far since the weather has been warm enough (the last 3 Monday's to be exact). as for the first two times i have beaten michael up the mountain and we were only walking. so last week michael says "I've got something for yall next week...yall just wait...I'm going to smoke yall up the mountain...I've just been strolling up and staying with yall". Okay we say. The "we" is my brother in law and me. There are others that go with us but his target was set on the two of us! So yesterday arrives and we all meet at the trail. I am really pumped but already feel a bit defeated b/c Michael can beat ANYONE in ANYTHING! So we set the timer and start out. Paul (my 24 year old nephew LOL!) takes off running. So I think to myself "I'm going to run this thing also and I'm going to beat Michael no matter what it takes." Then I think "You are going to die trying to beat him and you still won't do it b/c he is determined to beat you." So I begin running and then a hill comes...UH UH! so I decide that I'm going to run all the flats and slightly inclined areas and walk the really steep parts. And I make myself set a good running pace the entire time so I don't wear out. Well we start and I'm ahead of Michael. And my lead never fails!!! I think "well he's just taking it easy so he can just blow me away at the end by sprinting the last 300 yards or so b/c it's a straight stretch." Well, my lead begins to get bigger and bigger. But I'm still nervous about being beat. So I KEEP UP WITH PAUL!! Yes I said I KEPT UP WITH PAUL!! He is a stellar athlete and I KEPT UP WITH HIM! I must have run 5/8 of the entire thing. AND YES I BEAT MICHAEL!!! I came in 4 minutes 30 seconds before him. YES BEFORE!!!!!! I was so proud of myself. And all he could say was "well Tricia, you are a pretty good athlete...you're in better shape than I thought, but I have something for you next week!" So I'm glad he said this b/c it makes me determined to kick his butt AGAIN!!! he says it may take a few weeks but he'll slowly gain on me! but i said as he gains I'll be improving also and he'll never catch me! I can only hope...he'll eventually keep up with me if not pass me! BUT YES I BEAT MICHAEL BY 4 MINUTES 30 SECONDS!! I was so happy...still am!!
tomorrow I leave for LA at 645 pm...i'm getting really excited. I started packing before work this morning b/c I have to be packed before I leave the house tomorrow...I won't go back home before heading to the airport.
