WHY: I kept the first few lines because they so easily could be Spike as his time as William, trying to express his love through poetry yet always failing. BUT the song overall has the feeling of Spike's struggle with love to me. No matter what he does it always fails him. So in the end, he tries for love and fails at love leaving him resenting those in love. Yet even as he does so he endlessly craves love and he always has faith that maybe someday it might be his chance to find it.

WHY: It's a song about loving someone, who you can never have, something Spike knows all too well. Also the lyrics above remind me of the scene of Spike walking away after Cecily broke his heart and the town's people were mocking him.

WHY: This is my Spike/Harmony song. Spike wanting her, but not wanting to love her and surely not wanting her to love him. Harmony really was good as anyone else at that moment for Spike. He could have met a stranger in a bar and they would have given him just as much as what he wanted from her. Basically, it was all about sex for him.
The second bit thpugh is likely better for Spike's feelings towards Buffy. How even though she hurts him, he keeps getting drawn towards her and wanting her.

Still, I think this song is good for showing that Spike is the only one that gets Buffy, her pain, knows her secrets, that she is a creature of darkness like he is and that she has forbidden desires that only he can fulfill.
