To quote something quoted by a dear friend of mine...
"What a day, a year, a laugh it is..."
Work was interminable today. Very slow, very non-productive, in my opinion. After the day yesterday (auto inspection, doctor's visit for
foxfirebitch, et cetera) I was dragging today seriously...yawning a good bit of the day, nearly falling asleep, and so on and so on.
On the up side with work, I was surprised to get a visit today from a former teacher from my misspent days at North Hunterdon High School. It was a pleasant surprise, as the teacher in question was one I had always respected and enjoyed having for a bunch of English classes. Sadly, it was yet another reminder of the inexorable encroachment of time...when last I saw him, he hadn't gone gray. It's been 16 years since I saw him...amazed that he remembered me, amazed further still that he knew about some of the stuff that'd happened since then (the cancer, et cetera). It was good to see him, and perhaps he'll come back in when he decides on some new stereo equipment.
Got home to a mixed bag...
On the good side, got a big ol' box of discs to review for
Progscape...this is a cool thing, as I have desperately wanted new music to work on. Starting to listen now...some major releases in this batch, along with the usual plethora of smaller indy releases. Look for some new reviews soon.
On the down side, we had been hoping after last night that
foxfirebitch had rounded the metaphorical corner and was moving toward wellness...until we got home to her in the bathroom. I'll spare you the pleasantries. Looks like another day home tomorrow, and the likelihood that she will be performing in the musical at this point, having missed a week of rehearsals and the first night's performance, lie somewhere between slim and none.
She's disappointed, I'm disappointed, but this is out of our hands.
Trying to decide at this point if we'll be going to Philly or NYC to see Porcupine Tree in concert. They'll be touring through the area in May in support of their about to be released new studio album, Fear of a Blank Planet. If we go, and I think we'll figure out a way to do so, it'll be the fourth time for me to be seeing them live...
20050520 NYC Irving Plaza
20051001 NYC Town Hall
20061007 Glenside PA Keswick Theatre
It'd be nice to see them in May.
Also in planning is seeing Frogg Cafe in April at the
New Jersey Proghouse. For them it'll be the...again, fourth time seeing them? Let me think...
20041113 Metuchen NJ Forum Theatre (opening for Happy the Man) (no good photos from this show, alas...)
20050611 Metuchen NJ Forum Theatre (opening for Proto-Kaw)
20050709 Bethlehem PA Zoellner Arts Center (NEARfest 2005)
So yeah...fourth time.
Sorry...I had to post the photos...wish I had some good ones from the 2004 show, but alas...no Porcupine Tree photos either, as they don't like photography during their shows...yet oddly at every show I see flashes going off. Yet I'm a good boy and listen to that their management tell me...sigh...
Time to check on dinner...and listen to this CD...
Ciao,
friends... 93 93/93
