Fired

The doors to the elevator opened and her piercing blue eyes surveyed the scene.  Her head tilted to the side as she strode off, looking for her assistant.  A flash of red hair appeared out of the corner of her eye as she began her way down the hall.  “There you are, why must I wait forever?”

“I’m sorry….” started the girl but stopped as a glove covered hand appeared.

“I have no time for your excuses,” she whispered.  “Go to Prada and her the dress for the benefit.  Make sure that my dry cleaning has been delivered and that the flowers in my house have been changed, I thought I saw a wilting flower.  Then tell Richard no I do not want to have dinner with him.  He is my ex-husband, surely that should tell him all he needs to know about whether or not I wish to spend time with him.  Call my husband and tell him that yes for the thousandth time I will attend his company party.  Arrange for my outfit to be delivered as well as my hair and makeup team to arrive in schedule.  Move the run though ahead an hour.  I want to see the new sketches before noon.  Go get my tea and send the new girl in on your way out.”  Blue ice chips turned towards the rain streaked window and she felt a hand squeezing her chest but before she could do anything about it she heard footsteps.

“Sit down, we need to talk,” she said without turning around.  “I was very impressed at how you tried to warn me yesterday.  But you interupted three meetings that were very important and almost caused me to loose one of the most important business deals of my career.  I fear that is the problem with youth these days, always ready to run in like a bull in a china shop without thinking of the outcomes.  Do you really think I didn’t know?  Do you really think me that stupid.  Open your eyes, I have been doing this for longer than you have been alive.”  At that she turned around and moved to sit at her desk.  The girl was staring at her with her warm blue eyes.  “ You have no idea what it takes to be in this industry.  You don’t know how many times I have stabbed people in the back to get to where I am.  Do you really think that I don’t know what happens around me.  Do you really think that you could almost run away and I would just let you get away with it?  You’re fired.”  She reached for the long cigarette holder on her desk and took a deep drag, enjoying the burn as the smoke filled her lungs.

“You are wrong about me.  I do know what it takes to get to the top.  One day the whole world will know my name.  And you?  You will be all alone.  All alone with your House of DeVil.”  With a swish of blonde hair she was gone.  Cruella sat back in her hair and took another drag on her cigarette.  “Well ok let’s see what you have got.  Miranda Priestly.”
