comfort food

"My very favorite thing to eat is white bread with big fat slices of tomatoes and that sandwich spread... you know, the kind with the relish in it... raisin bran with skim milk late at night... ice-cold condensed milk... I've been known to eat it straight from the can... with a spoon. I don't buy it anymore, because I can't stop eating it. My ( Read more... )

I love a good grilled cheese. In fact, I had one for dinner tonight (but it wasn't really "home-cooked" - it was from Culver's). My favorite is when it's on really thick Pullman bread, buttered and toasted, with Kraft American cheese slices.

I get cravings for this thing my mom calls Ooey-Gooey Butter Cake. It's similar to lemon bars, but different... it's hard to describe. But my mom's recipe for that is scrumptious. They definitely remind me of home.

One of my grandmothers is always making this Polish thing that I can say but can't spell... it's basically cottage cheese (or something) in a fried dough shell. They are indescribably good. I also love pierogies. I love being Polish... such good food.

Of course, being Jewish lends to good food, as well... for instance latkes. I could eat twenty of those for sure... with sour cream, honey mustard, or applesauce. Or even just plain.

Something store-bought that I consider a comfort food... well, besides double chocolate chip frappucinos from Starbucks or packages of Sourpatch Kids... maybe those fake BBQ riblets from either Morningstar or Gardenburger and some macaroni and cheese. I love making that meal for myself when I don't feel like cooking... so easy to zap one of those and feel like I've got a home-cooked

the beef and spinach ravioli from a local deli (they were served at both of my maternal grandparents' funerals - this may or may not be a contributing factor, in addition to their being SINFULLY DELICIOUS).

bread dumplings.

popsicles.

I am a popsicle fiend. What's your favorite kind? I've recently discovered that Starbucks makes coffee-flavored popsicles and it's been a blessing on my life.

A for liking scrambled eggs with ketchup.
A+ for referencing the jewel song my mom listened to a thousand and more times during my adolescence, if that is in fact what you did.
