Response to 16beckyb 's prompt: "In 'Reckoning' Kahlan is devastated by Richard's disappearance into the future. What was Rahl's reaction to Cara's disappearance?"
Wonderful speculative fill in for what might have happened not only in regard to Rahl's feelings about Cara during "Reckoning" but also what was going on between he and Kahlan. Whoa - a little sadistic touch there giving Kahlan a painting of Richard on their wedding night.
I don't even know how I've never read this before. So touching and heartwrenching with the portraits; each picture of the one person they cannot be with D: I love the little details, Rahl's affection for his horse [something that's canon for me too] and his struggle to not judge other Mord'sith by Cara.
I don't even know how I've never read this before.
Yeah, I wrote this a while ago and it just never got a lot of attention and I could never figure out why. But I'm glad people seem to be reading it now!

Thank you! To me, small details are what make a story really come to life. And as for the horse, I actually use psychological profiles a lot in my characterization of Darken, and a common thread in the various profiles I feel help with his characterization is that while the individual may view animals as dispensable (for example, Darken killing the kitten) they often form more meaningful relationships with animals because of the unconditional love they can receive. (Darken seems perfectly happy with the kitten until he no longer needs it.)
Thank you for reading and reviewing and glad you enjoyed it!
