Oh, poor Michael!

You've really captured how he resents Richard, but at the same time it's not that he doesn't love him - it has a lot to do with the parents knowing about Richard's Epicness and paying so much more attention to him.

I take it in this AU, Dennee still gets shot but Kahlan then eludes Fane and the other D'Harans, at least for awhile? I bet she and Zedd had a quarrel before he agreed to tell her who the Seeker was.

Thank you! It was interesting, delving into Micheal. I'm almost ashamed of myself - I've spent so much time delving into the Rahl siblings, that I completely overlooked Richard's relationship with his adopted brother, who is arguably his 'real' brother, since they grew up together.

And yeah, Dennee still got shot, but the D'Harans didn't immediately pick up Kahlan's trail after crossing the Boundary.

You've taken this to a more intense level than my own neglected!Michael headcanon, to where I wonder that Michael never just punched Richard in the face one day (thus leading to a huge falling out). He can never measure up to being the Seeker which is awful. I have Feelings about being the 'not perfect' child despite my good relationship with my sister. If we weren't friends things would be different, let alone if I felt half as neglected as Michael must here.
It's a powerful fic.

Lol, well I think he probably has punched him in the face at least once, I just chose not to include that scene.

Also, I think that it's not quite as bad as it seems, because this particular fic is filtered through Michael's POV, and he tells me he isn't an entirely truthful narrator.
