So my first attempt at draping the Inara dress (just the top part) resulted in a very lovely shirt in which the straps sit on the corner of my shoulders (almost off the shoulder, but not quite). Seeing as the straps should sit on the bra strap line, this is a problem. o.O I'm not quite certain how I did that, the straps didn't look that slanty when I was draping (well, I have an idea how it happened, I'll see if I’m right when I try to correct it tonight.) And this is why we start with muslins and not directly on the good fabric, kids. >< (A lesson I have learned very well. Thank you Traeonna and Amanda.) It's a nice shirt though, so I'll keep the pattern for something else.
Finally started watching Death Note again. ^^ I finished episode six last night. Or was it seven? The plot's getting all tense and fun. ^_^ I won't be watching these at the crazy pace I watched Bleach because I have costuming to get done, but I should see at least one episode per day. I must find out from OLAC which episode we are up to, so I know how much I need to catch up on. ^^
My hair is getting frigging long. Well, long for me, at least. It's kinda annoying. **sigh** The things we put ourselves through for cosplay. But after ACen, it's all getting hacked again. ^^
Work is sucking my will to live this week. No particular reason; the workload has been fine. I think it's just because I'm in costuming mode and I just want to go home and work on that.
I may be cosplaying two different FF villains at Ohayocon. One will be in the canon outfit, the other will go with a themed group cosplay. ^^ I had only intended on doing the canon one, but I started designing the other outfit and I'm getting really excited about the concept. There's just one hang up (besides time, which is the ever present antagonist to my cosplay plans) - I would need to make an approximately 3 1/2 foot long sword and I want it to look *good* and not be too flimsy. Metal is pretty much out due to convention rules. Plastic would be good, but I've never worked with it before. Wood would probably get heavy and foam would just fall apart too easily. Does anyone have any tips, suggestions, helpful websites to point me to, etc.? It's pretty much all silver colored (with a little bit of black in one spot), and the silver is in three different textures/shades: blade, super-sharp/shiney blade edge, and rougher handle area.
I've pretty much scrapped my idea of cosplaying Grimmjow Jaggerjack from Bleach. I don't know when I'd squeeze it in. Not that anyone outside of OLAC knew of that plan. Maybe next year if I still like the character?
