For my friends who follow INVU:
The author, Kim Kang-Won, took a break from the series (back in 2003) to do another series The Queen's Knight, which recently wrapped up. Her intent back in 2003 was to go back to INVU after Queen's, but who knows if that's still her plan. Currently, Queen's is being translated into English (also available through TokyoPop) and I don't know how active Kang-Won is in that process, so it's up for speculation on how long it will be until she either resumes INVU or starts a new series. The upside is that she is still alive and writing, so there's a chance we'll get more of Sey, Hali, and the gang! ^_^
There's another manhwa series I follow called Full House, of which only two books are currently available in English. However, yesterday, I found a website offering the complete series (approx. 15 vol.) in the original Korean for only $85!! Squeeee!!! ^___^ I'm thinking I should buy it, and use them to help me learn Korean! I'm already familiar with the alphabet and can sound out words, but I don't usually know what they say. I have textbooks on the Korean language and I'm hoping that having something fun to read will help me learn more quickly.
Comment on Kamikaze Girls:
In one bit, Ichiko verbally smacks down her fellow biker-gang girls by stating they, who mindlessly follow the leader and all act the same, are weak compared to Momoko, a frilly, girly-girl, who only eats sweet food, and dresses in the Lolita style, because Momoko does what she wants and doesn't care what anyone else thinks. I like that message: that true strength is strength of will, not strength that is physical and full of bravado. I've been a long believer that not caving in to peer pressure makes you stronger than "surviving" through whatever idiotic thing the group is trying to make you do.
That's one thing I liked about Tank Girl, too. Sure, she was physically tough, but the real contest was of her will against the evil guy's. If he killed her, it would be because he couldn't break her, and she would win. ^_^
The dream started (?) out with me watching the end of X-Men 3, but what I was watching didn't fit in with the time-line at all. Remy (gambit) was a toddler and had an older sister. They were doing a spell that involved saying stuff in another language at a cat. During the spell, the room started filling with water and two-inch juggling balls (of various colors) started trailing around the room like the little tail you can get on your mouse pointer. The kids were floating in the water but the cat just remained in the chair, calmly staring at the kids.
Around this point, my consciousness started switching between the three of them (being a cat for a bit was fun =^-^=). Despite the water being almost to the ceiling, the sister insisted they complete the spell (believing once they did the water would go away. Remy had to say the last words underwater because the room had completely filled and something bright, shiny, and full of red and black light/clouds happened and I think the juggling balls were angry and, once they got their shit together, they were going to come after us. The cat was just the conduit for the spell, so I think she was still okay and not evil. We swam over to the window and it took some time to break it (I was Remy at the time and working with a three year-old's muscles). I got out first and plopped on the ground (the room which had been on the second floor, switched to the first floor as I was falling b/c my mind realized the problem with a 3 year-old jumping out of a second floor window).
We ran down the street (my street back in Swanton) and ran past our mom (not my mom in real life; instead she was a frumpy woman with grey curly hair, wearing a white, baggy floral print thing) who started chasing after us asking us what we had done. The sister picked me up and let the mom know the house was going to blow up, so we all ran like crazy. Interestingly, this is one of the few times in a dream where I've been running from something and could actually run fast instead of feeling like I was running through treacle. As we were running, I briefly saw the script in my head and knew that I (as Remy) was going to be all right, but "Kate" was going to die and I wasn't certain whether Kate was the mom or the sister.
The cat appeared with the group at some point and we ended up at a McDonald's where we were safe for a bit and could get a bite to eat before we started running again. Remy was taken in by a guy who resembled the character Dodger from Oliver Twist and who was going to start Remy on his life of thievery. Dodger lived in a light, spacious warehouse looking room with no furniture and a sanded wood floor; the kids in the thieves gang all lived in the basement, in the dark, and had red, glowing eyes. That's about where the dream ended.
