I have started reading Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut and OMG why have I never read this before? I'm about 80 pages in and I absolutely *love* it. Everyone, go out and get this book! Read it now.
At some point, I must have read a few page excerpt from this book because I know I've read the two line part wondering whether turtles' necks contract or bend and shortly afterwards a bit about leaving a car in an intersection because the character was done with it. I just have no idea where or when I read it, but I'm happy I finally know where the bit about the turtles came from. ^_^
Also, does anyone know what the "yellow press" is? In the book, a character says that if he had known the interviewer was a member of the yellow press, he wouldn't have wasted his time.
Saturday night, I hung out with Wendy, her fiancee Jason, her brother Bobby, Tina, and Andy. One bit struck me as rather interesting. I had to tell a guy off for grabbing my ass (not the interesting bit) and when I went back to the group and told them, three of my friends were all ready to go kick the guy's ass despite my reassurances that I had taken care of the situation. On some levels, it was sweet of them, but what the guy did didn't warrant retaliation on the level of pounding him into the ground like a tent stake. Also, I somewhat dislike them ignoring the fact I said I took care of it. My perception on this may be skewed, but I generally feel like when a guy says he took care of a situation, the other guys do the guy nod and the topic is dropped, but when I, as a woman, say I took care of it, it apparently isn't enough and I still need "protection". >_< Granted, the people who were getting feisty were drunk, so perhaps they would have gotten over-protective even if I had been a guy. Probably not though.
